I loved how they extended Gigantic in 2004. I think it may be Chicago, I'm not sure, but they just kept the ending going.
At some point, they added the good-night routine. I still enjoyed the song after with the good night routine.
The next phase, became the "breaking-it-down" bit leading to the good-nights.
The first time I saw this (on dvd) I loved it, both for how it sounded and its unexpectedness. Having the energy of the song drop down was great and fitting in a way, for a band known for its "quiet verses/loud choruses", to finally do the "break-it-down" routine familiar to so many other bands.
So, it became the new thing they did with the song.
But now I think they need to stop it. I understand Gigantic works as a big crowd pleaser at the end of the concert, and I still enjoy it. However, I recently saw a clip, don't recall from what show, where Joey was creating these really awesome squealing sounds from his guitar, and Kim went into the break-it-down bit.
Joey obliged her and that was it for those wonderful sounds he was generating! What he was doing sounded great and seemed as if it could go in some really interesting directions but, instead they 'broke-it-down."
I think the outro of the song is a perfect place for Joey to experiment, to let the ending of the song be as much of a showcase for Joey as the bridge in Vamos. Forget saying good-night or breaking it down, just let him improvise.
If they're going to keep doing the good night thing, maybe they can just do it to a different song altogether. I would think they'd be tired of always (usually?) finishing with Gigantic by this point.
If they tour again, I hope they mix it up more, take more liberties with songs and find a new way to bring a night of great music to a close, then with a routine they've been doing since they reunited.
in my opinion... |

I think they should end their shows with 'Motorway to Roswell'. That would make me happy.

I would love if they ended with a 7 to 10 minute version of Motorway, have Frank keep singing the "last night..." part while Joey creates wondrous sounds with his guitar. |

Since u r talkin bout song endings on the 2004-05 then -09 tour, good time for me to re-iterate (as per seeing them 20 times): They would change the last line in "Monkey....) practically every nite, which I thought was so cool. Maybe not many peeps saw more than one or more shows but I dug it. Seemed like perhaps an inside joke tween the band. Wish I could find my post way back then 2004-05 when I wrote the specific lines they used. Shit! Help this lame-o, y'all. But the line were something like "This monkey's gone forever..." and stuff like that |
