Even if they do this, I hope they decide to release a selection of songs as single coherent album. They're a classic album band after all... would kind of ruin the magic if they just went for this approach.
I agree. Plus, there's not the excitement of getting a whole new album to listen to all at once and pick your favorite tracks. Also, the only band I'm familiar with that did the one song at a time release was The Smashing Pumpkins with Teargarden By Kalidyscope and those are the worst songs they ever put out (even by "new" Pumpkins standards).

Hi, everyone. I've been a long time fan of everything Pixies, and HAD to register to agree with Helmut's sentiment. Surfer Rosa doesn't sound like Doolittle, which doesn't sound like Bossanova, which doesn't sound like Trompe le Monde. Matter of fact, I find FB's subsequent two solo releases sound more like Trompe than Trompe does the previous Pixies albums! There's always been a forward momentum in Black's, and as a result, the Pixies' work.
FB's new songs sound excellent. Greens and Blues is a hit, to my ears. If these are indeed intended for the Pixies, or have already been recorded by the Pixies, I'm even more excited. As far as I'm concerned, the Pixies are four people playing together. Their sound is wherever those four people are at creatively when they're writing and recording! If they're working with songs as strong as Classic Masher, there's NOTHING to worry about.
However, with that in mind, I've found much of Black's solo work since Bluefinger more than suitable for a Pixies album. Captain Pasty, Threshold, Tight Black Rubber, Garbage Heap, Gyaneshwar... none of them would do a disservice to the Pixies legacy.
But hey, I liked Bam Thwok, too.

^ Good post, agree completely. Anything the 4 of them work on will always be of interest. Hopefully something is on the horizon. |

Agree with Carl and Clasic Masher, if they do something together, I hope it's not an EP or that Wedding Present monthly song type deal. Maybe the album format doesn't make much sense anymore for publicists or finantial advisors, but it would be kind of disapointing not to have an albums worth of new material to pick apart.
Waiting for any kind of news regarding these new songs. And the new Throwing Muses album is still a summer away. Damn. |

I'd be stunned if they released this as anything but an album. I guess I'd be disappointed too; piecemeal singles/tracks seems like a frustrating way to share new music. If they do record; if they have; I don't want drips; give the world a deluge. |

Thank you for the warm welcome! I would also prefer a full album, but at this point, I wouldn't say no to any offering of new Pixies music. It'd be just as miraculous as Bowie, Sabbath and My Bloody Valentine's return. More, all of those bands turned in efforts worthy of their legacy. Pixies will do the same.
"I'm wasting your time, just talkin' to you... maybe best, you go on home..." I can't get this outta my head.

Now that Kim has left the band then it enables the other three to push forward with the release of the new album and tour. |

some guy on a weezer forum said that kim shattuck is performing live duties. i doubt they'll instate anyone as an official new member, just carry on as the three of them with a guest bassist. look at that poor bassist in the rolling stones.

So, will we ever get more material? We know there's something like 20 songs recorded, yet its been confirmed the Pixies wont be releasing a new album... I hope they're not doing one track a month for the next year and a half. |

Its been over a month since Bagboy, about 9 months since we learned about the Pixies recording, about three years (!) since the last proper Black Francis album. It's time to throw us a bone, we need more than one song in that time. The thing that makes it so annoying is that we know there is all this material stockpiled, yet the management or whoever is both refusing to make it available and keeping us in the dark over when we might see something significant. |

Wait what? Who confirmed no new album? Sorry, the momentum around here hit a brick wall about 3 weeks ago and I stopped checking in so frequently. My cursory glance through the last page or two didn't reveal this confirmation (unless I skimmed over it).

Publicist said it when Bagboy came out, but when the tour got announced it mentioned the first collection of new material since Trompe Le Monde or something like that, so who knows. |

This publicist keeps popping up in conversations, never in a good light. I hate this publicist.
The CIA should hire this publicist to replace Snowden, to make sure that no information is ever made available again.

What are the options? Internet only singles. EPs. Seems Bagboy was released to generate interest in the tour. As it's just the coasts and Europe right now, I'll assume there's going to be a broader world tour amping up next year. I hope they don't drag out single releases until then to promote different legs of the tour. |

I don't mind them releasing individual songs, at least in the beginning. Gotta judge the reaction a bit and don't wanna overload the tour with new material. But this is a new time, where a song like Bagboy already seems like it came out MONTHS ago. They need to keep the momentum going, which is what they seem to be doing with the twitter page and all. |

We know there is material, but we don't know if the material was completed and mastered. They might still be finishing the stuff up, now that the Kim things is settled. That would contradict the statements of a few who imply they've heard the songs, but we can't trust that really. |

I'm not sure if you're sarcastic?
Anyway, I heard a rumor that Kim will be joining her old band-mates for the Pixies New York City shows scheduled for September. If you look at the tour dates, there is no conflict between the Pixies and Breeders tour schedules. Could it be that the Pixies are actually behaving like the mischievous, mythical beings they are named after? |

According to twitter, a new pixies video is being shot today at Pickathon music fest outside of Portland, OR. So yeah look out for that. |

That would be a kind of relief, after all this upheaval. Maybe they've 'tromped' the lot of us?! |

Don't know. Let me put on my detective hat. OK, there is a bottle of Heinz brand ketchup on the table. I believe that Heinz brand ketchup is common on both sides of the pond, so that's no help. There is also a green bottle that has the label turned away from the camera. Does anyone recognize that green bottle? Is it a product that is unique to the US or UK? That might provide a clue as to where this picture was taken. |

No, it's a photograph. The real Gil Norton is still aging (unless he has been travelling away from the earth at nearly the speed of light since that photograph was taken...?) |

For the people who understand how the music business usually works, does it make any sense to do a tour with only one song released (or maybe two, we'll see about that new video)?
It's kind of frustrating to see the tour around the corner and not know what they're planning to do with the songs. Still haven't heard the songs on Youtube that Frank played solo, mainly because I'm hoping to hear them first in an album form, or some sort of definitive version of the tracks. The same goes for the tour, still haven't bought the tickets for that same reason (and maybe that window is closed by now).
Do you guys think they'll start the tour with only the "hear the new body of songs" thing regarding the material they've recorded?

it makes sense in that bagboy was used as a push to publicize the tour. seeing as it's doing very well sales wise, it appears to have paid off. it was likely done primarily because another 'album tour' would have been perceived as a cash grab.
does it make sense artistically? who's to say. i personally don't like it. i prefer the traditional album / touring schedule. i don't want piece meal tracks spread out over a year or something silly. i know it's supposedly a response to the ipod generation, but ugh. |
