Apparently Weezer covered Los Angeles during their weird Cruistrip last weekend.
People seem to go apeshit for this, which is funny because Weezer fans have the tendency to hate everything that's not on Blue or Pinkerton

Christ if someone played that to me without the video and said it was Frank Black I'd probably have believed it. |

Yes, that's true. Pat Wilson does a great FB
What about his words about 'his friend Charles Thompson'

Los Angeles played live, and 100% of the audience are standing still with their camera phone. Laaaaame.
I don't know much about Weezer but the drummer is quite impressive.

That would be awesome. He could then show Weezer how to play the C#m to A section of L.A. Kudos to the cover. |

I was at that show on the cruise...first of all, the cruise was AWESOME with a great lineup of bands in addition to Weezer...you should have seen the freaked out people on the next boat over in port in Cozumel when Dinosaur Jr started pumping out the decibels on the Lido deck...
So..I may not use the Franknweezer username, but also love both...and hearing Pat Wilson announce that they would do a Frank cover, and then hear the opening to LA - it was a mindblowing experience!!! It was really quite the setlist for the 2nd "inside" show of the cruise - and what a show of good taste on their only cover song of the night. And as you saw on the video...it was a fantabulous performance. One thing that you don't get from the video was the awesome sound in the theater - it was just about the best sound I've ever heard at an amplified rock show. That big bass drum that hits at the end of the opening tidbit of LA sounded massively HUGE, unlike anytime I've heard Frank play it - which of course is largely a factor of budget.
Also...while most Weezer fans do prefer Blue and Pinkerton, I'd say that Green isn't far behind. Is that really much different than with Frank though - most people like FB and TOTY best. One thing Weezer did to manage expectations was to promise that they'd play Blue in its entirety outside and Pinkerton in its entirety inside, thus removing any antsy-ness and allowing people to just enjoy.
FYI, at the outside show they did a cover of Radiohead's Paranoid Android, and that was really good too - but that's been a staple of their set lists for a while so was less of a shock than them breaking out one of my favourite Frank songs for the first time! |

Love that cover! One of my mates went over to the States for that cruise, we were considering it too as my gf is a big Dino Jr fan. |
