I like the way Michael C Hall's role has so many comparisons to his role in Six Feet Under.
And Colin Hanks, like what the fuck is he the son of Tom Hanks or a clone of him? |

I have to admit, I've never seen 6' Under but it's hard to imagine him outside the Dexter role. He really is believably dead inside. Mostly. I actually didn't even know that Tom Hanks had a son much less an actor much less this guy. So, I guess I'm pretty out of the loop when it comes to TV.

6FU was fucking great you should watch it. I'm a big fan of everything Michael Ball has done, especially True Blood!
In 6FU Michael C Hall played the son of a guy who owned a funeral company. He was killed in the first episode but appeared throughout the series as a ghost/dead father who keeps appearing now and again to all the members of the family as someone who they talk to/take comfort in, perhaps in their own heads it's open to interpretation. So there's that comparison. Also in 6FU Hall was always in the morgue embalming the recently deceased, whereas in Dexter he is this geek who is obsessed with blood who plays vigilante and takes out evil doers in a similarly clinical manner.
And in 6FU he played a gay man, and there was an episode where some other gay characters who were questioning his sexuality mentioned that he was ('A' not Gay) as in a-sexual (which wasn't actually the case but he acted like it) + in Dexter he plays this straight guy who is similarly a- or non-sexual because he is fucked up and obsessed with blood... this bothered me a little bit at the start because Rita, played by the drop-dead-gorgeous Julie Benz, was his girlfriend and he was totally disinterested in her moves. I mean come on, there are plenty of other guys out there who WOULD appreciate a girlfriend like her dressing up as Lara Croft and giving you a blow job for your birthday, particularly me... |

s06e03 nice twist at the end of the latest episode I thought! They've really got this season nailed. Long live Dexter!
SPOILERS ALERT! How long has Professor Geller been in the freezer and was he ever involved in the murders. how much of it all was the work of Travis and if Geller was involved was Travis killing him part of the plan?
p.s. I live in America |

I watched all of Six Feet Under but just couldn't get into Dexter. I gave it 3 or 4 episodes. My wife and I agreed that (other than Michael C. Hall) the acting was terrible. Maybe I just didn't give it enough time. From what I saw, I thought his character in Dexter was almost the complete opposite of David Fisher. Although good at his job, Fisher was an indecisive wimp who had to make a conscious effort to not be constantly pushed around. The nauseating episode where he was kidnapped and beat up almost turned me off of the series completely. |

I didn't find Dexter as instantly likable as 6FU either, but it's worth persevering. The developing plots are it's strength I'd say, and you are right sometimes the acting is not the best. It's passable though and I blame the producers/directors for that mostly. Treat each season like a long film, with each one having a serial killer on the loose who eventually gets his comeuppance. I like the way Dexter is always avoiding getting caught, it adds a lot of suspense to the show and I find the whole premise quite interesting in the way it explores the mind of a psycho killer. The latest season in particular has taken quite an interesting slant on the whole thing.
As for similarities between the two characters played by Hall, the are very different in many ways but there are some striking analogies that are probably nothing more than a coincidence but cool nonetheless. I'm not sure I'd rate Hall that highly as an actor but maybe that is because of the roles he gets, I'd like to see him do something else. I find that he comes across a bit wooden sometimes but maybe that is because he has a rubber chin. I thought the episode you mentioned 'That's My Dog' bit of a stand alone episode was one of the best of the show, but it did kind of go steadily downhill in the last couple of seasons you are right. The season finale was a major anti-climax. |

I agree... especially at the beginning I found the supporting cast pretty terrible. The actress playing his sister, Deb, in particular seemed to do a bad job. I don't know if she's gotten better or if I've infused her poor acting quirks into her character as semi-unemotional like Dexter but I don't have this problem anymore. I'll look out for 6FU once I get up to speed on the Dexter/Office/Community that I missed while away.

Yes, I owe Netflix for my Community obsession but it is ridiculously enjoyable. I especially love the first paintball episode.

Well I rather just enjoyed the first episode (1/3) of the new Charlie Brooker series Black Mirror. He's one twisted individual that guy, could talk the arse of a donkey while alseep. (note the use of the word 'while' there and not 'whilst' - still getting used the sound of that...)
Don't know what Community is but will check it sometime via the tube.
Oh yeah Debra Morgen, whatever her name in real life is. I can't remember what she was like in the beginning, just that she was the new kid on the block and now she's the gaffer. That whole story is going to develop into something next season and the next I think, they must have some good plots to tie it all up to be betting on 2 more years at this stage I reckon. I miss the black cop in S1, can't remember his name. He was funny, but not in the first few episodes. It's kind of weak in some places but overall it's a damn sight more interesting than CSI or Law and Order. |

Are you following the latest season of Dexter? I don't have Showtime, so I always end up watching a day late but the way last week's episode ended was pretty stellar. Unfortunately, the "Next week on Dexter" clips at the end were too revealing, so a lot of the suspense that could have been developed is missing.

A but you see I always switch off before the preview comes on. Last weeks was indeed quite a nice little twist in the tale, looking forward to the next one..
I heard that the actress who plays Dext's sister is apparently married to him in real life. |

Yes, I will be following that MO from here forward. And BLT/pot, yes, definitely check out Community (and give it a few episodes). I do enjoy thoroughly.

Will do. After watching the latest installment (SPOILER) anyone think they might be lining up the new kid, the geeky programmer guy as the next killer? He did design that game about serial killers, and then went off in the huff when Dexter didn't like it, displaying a slight element of sociopathy..? Spin-off? Just speculating, probably not.. he doesn't come across as a violent person but then of course it's 'the quiet ones you need to look out for' as the saying goes... |

(Also spoilers) Yeah, as soon as they started in on the whole 'dating the sister' thing and Batista tried to scare him off, it was pretty clear they were setting him up to do something major. Then the whole fascination with Dexter, the recent hand of the icetruck killer, etc etc. My predictions: Next episode, they are going to start closing in on the informant of the wormwood plot as a possible accomplice, and by they I mean "the new kid". Dexter will be feeling guilty about the whore of Babylon's death, the new kid will have caught the scent, and doomsday will start on something more personal and targeted at Dexter/family. I see the new kid saving the day and actually being the one to take out doomsday, saving Dex, son, and Jamie and at the same time enjoying it. His part will be darker next season.
Just my off-the-cuff predictions. Feel free.

All good points you make, and don't forget about barbie who stole the ice truck killers mannequin hand that is still out there. If you're theory is correct then she is bound to come back into it. Maybe they can also explain why Masuka didn't take the chance to bone her as well, unless he is turning a bit psycho as well. You have to admit, after 8 seasons they are going to have to at least try to explain why the Miami homicide team haven't actually brought one single serial killer to justice despite having so many on the loose that mysteriously disappear, unless they are all in on it.

Re: end of the penultimate S6 episode- WTF is he Houdini now?
And the Wormwood boat scene when they find the equipment where they were cooking the gas bomb. 'Looks like this is where they were making it'
O RLY? Do ya think maybe the large cannister with the word 'POISON' on it might have given it away LOL |
