Hi,
Is it true that the Pixies recorded some songs after Trompe, before breaking up? I think I heard a tiny bit of their version of Brackish Boy. Have any other recordings surfaced? Are these the most desirable Pixies recordings left, to be released?
cheers |

I think so. A few of them.
I think the Pixies should learn FB and Breeders tracks too, then bring them on over to the UK. You can imagine them coming on stage to applause like they do, then Kim launches into "a oooooh ooh....." followed by the bass line to Cannonball.
Frank and Kim wrote some amazing tunes apart. Shame they never got it together.
edit: here's the dates for a few of your links
Master Control Studio, Burbank, 9/91 Build High I Can't Forget
Recording Co. Studio, Chicago, 7/90 Born In Chicago
Portastudio Demo, Los Angeles, 6/90 Hang On To Your Ego
You'll be wanting to download this if you don't already have it.

Do we know the name of any track recorded post-Trompe?
I'm getting confused by dates. The tracks mentioned here are pre-TLM and alternative mixes right? |

Just what I thought. The whole Malta-experience. That was an exciting time.
Trompe Le Monde used to be a double record. I'm sure I've read that in a Mojo-artile pre-reunion.

ok today i look for the files in my hard disk, and gotcha! found a lot:
complete thread, here in fb.net 9 years ago:
http://forum.frankblack.net/topic.asp?ARCHIVE=true&TOPIC_ID=54&whichpage=1
I found the alternate mixes of Trompe le Monde plus the clips post TLM, and this is the story:
Trompe Alts -uploaded by gavin@frankblack.net-
Here're some tracks for people like me who love Trompe Le Monde, but want a fresh spin on it. Of course, the full 'alternate mix'/outtakes (AKA 'J Malta mix') would be best, but for now we're just gonna have to make due with this stuff and the 3 short clips.
The "Planet Of Sound" (single mix) is from, well, the Planet Of Sound single. The main difference between the album version is the vocals.
The "Head On" (remix) is from a promo cd single. I can't tell much, if any, difference from the LP version, but here it is anyway.
"Letter To Memphis" (instrumental/vocal mix) is a homemade mix combining the instrumental b-side and the LP version. Nothing amazing, but maybe worth the download.
The Malta mix clips are sourced from James Barnard's site. These are all that's available at the moment. If you want the full recording released (supposedly containing lots of goodies, such as an early version of 'Surf Epic'), bug 4AD to release the Trompe Le Monde demos/outtakes as their next posthumous Pixies release. For more info, check the forum thread "Petition: Lost Trompe Tapes!" at http://forum.frankblack.net/topic.asp?TOPIC_ID=54
The "secret mix" is a weird mix of the officially released cd, main differences being quieter vocals and less bass. Not to be confused with the aforementioned Alternate/Malta mix, these aren't 'real' mixes, rather just homemade using a special technique.

enjoy!

Thought I had that version of Hang Onto Your Ego, but I can't find it to compare. Thought it was just BF and a drum machine. Think you can hear Kim faintly on this one though.
Read an interview where he says that EDF helped him figure out the correct chords later on! |

Was this guy for real? If he really did have the Pixies version of Surf Epic, that would be gold! Looked like it was never followed up, by anyone.. :(
