I recall a few recent-ish shows with varied set lists like that. Think they did one in London last year too. Certainly nice to see Break My Body, The Sad Punk and Rock Music there. |

Really?? If so, there are several songs that I've not heard at 4 Pixies shows I've seen so far... Cecilia Ann in particular jumps off the page but I don't think I've heard Ed is Dead either; It was one of the first Pixies songs to really grab me. Now throw in Motorway to Roswell and you have the dream show.

Had another look at the LLondon set list and for me it's near perfection. Tame, Alec Eiffel, You Fuckin Die (!), River Euphrates, etc. It's just missing Motorway, Letter To Memphis and The Happening. |

Oh, they are (see Matto's post). They did a few 'regular' shows in South America, London and Australia but seems they're back to the Doolittle stuff for these next few dates.
Think Dave said they're gonna finish the Doolittle shows for good once these next few finish.

Sadly, I've long been absent from this forum. Far too much musical mayhem in my own day to day life. Alas. But I did want to make it a point to drop in and mention how insanely pumped I am to see Doolittle live tonight. That's the album that, after one minute into Debaser, made me decide to become a musician. So far it has been paying off quite well. Hope to see some of you there!

Why thank you. And here's what I heard.
Dancing The Manta Ray Weird At My School Bailey' Walk
They played their hearts out, though they seemed a little tired at times. A few fewer drum fills here or there, etc. I'll just chalk it up to a little too much Easter feasting today. Despite that there was just so much energy, and they covered all the Doolittle material beautifully. Never thought I'd hear those B-sides or Silver live. Ever. Still coming to terms with it. Manta Ray Debaser Tame Wave Of Mutilation I Bleed Here Comes Your Man Dead Monkey Gone To Heaven Mr. Grieves Crackity Jones La La Love You No. 13 Baby There Goes My Gun Hey Silver Gouge Away
First Encore: Wave Of Mutilation (U.K. Surf) Into The White
Second Encore: Broken Face Isla De Encanta U-Mass Where Is My Mind? Gigantic (With Breakdown)

Great show in msp. Sorry to have missed you dietr. Hope all is well!
Anyway, very tight show. The best form I have seen them in. I came in with low expectations of sound quality due to the nature of the venue (and not the band), but it was a great show.
I liked sitting in the balcony so I could actually see, but it really sucked when no one was standing up.
Next time I will get tix on the floor. I am old, but not that fricking old
Set list... some b-sides. Highlight was Mata Ray.
Loved the Doolitle set ... the highlight for me was Silver because I have never seen that one.
The 1st encore my favorite was Broken Face. Gigantic was the fave of the second encore.
Pixies - Thank you!
Hope they keep touring and hope it's not my last time to see them live.

I just got back to work after the concert.
I had a brutal start as I thought I wasn't going to be able to get to the Concert Hall until 9:30, and I was told the will-call box would close at 9:00. I was furious! But when I got to work there was a note that told me I was free. Joy!!
I was walking down the portal when they were starting their first song. I was so happy I almost cried three times.
I can't tell you the song list. Some of the memorable points were Winterlong and a near zero-visibility smoke-screen (a veritable Winnipeg White-Out) on Into the White. Kim "broke it down" and said goodnight to everyone on the last song, Gigantic. She got the hall thumping on Tame, and couldn't recall ever playing Winnipeg!
How was the opening band and the movie? I'm in the first row of the balcony tomorrow.
A couple more things I remember from the show: There were a few piston-like dancers, one guy standing in front of FB had the most incredible vertical.
Joey started to rip into a solo just at the end of Gigantic, it was like a bursting of pent-up chops, it was Catholics-esque. The man has not been idle for 25 years! They should give him some places to open up. I would like to see him on more FB projects. It's amazing how much restraint and taste he has.
Kim's voice was in fine form. I think her mic is too low on the harmonies!
I love the way the hearts flutter with the same motion as Dave's shirt, a bit of visual magic. He should set his bass drum up to blow smoke rings into the crowd. Dave and Dave/Kim is a very solid foundation, fantastic.
My wish-list for today is Bird Dream of the Olympus Mons. |
