My friend went to the Wellfleet, MA show last night (8/02). I guess there was this guy in the crowd trying to yell shit at BF, he always says he can't hear the shit people yell. This time he claimed to be deaf......my friend wrote :
"[The show was]Really loose and laid back, lots of between song banter. He actually claimed to be deaf at one point when a guy was trying to talk to him from the crowd, refered to himself as 'the Beethoven of indie rock, I'm stone deaf, I just play all these songs from muscle memory.' hilarious!"

It's funny how no one has replied to this. I wonder if it's because the remark can be misconstrued as somewhat grandiose.

I was thinking the same thing.......no one responded? I think its hillarious........He was obviously kidding and comparing himself to Beethoven because he (FBF) was feigning deafness. Pretty funny on-stage banter, wouldn't you say Brian ? |

Yes, I totally get it and totally agree. It's one of those things that doesn't read right...you gotta be there. I've seen him many times say the funniest things in person...then you read about it later and it's written out of context.
I think it's a hilarious quote!

Yeah, I love his between song chat.
There was a lovely radio interview on the old FB.net FTP where the interviewer was being rather earnest, talking about the Man's influence. And he said something along the lines of "Yeah, indie rock! I invented it. But there's this guy in Russia, Sergei, who claims he did, so we have this kinda legal thing going on". |
