| On rare occasions, I'll hear Frank Black songs in public and freak out. Tonight's example was hearing "If Your Poison Gets You" during dinner at a restaurant called The Portage in Chicago. I was in the middle of a conversation when I freaked out and reacted, "Oh my God, guys, this is FRANK BLACK!" Nobody quite got my level of shock and enthusiasm. I knew the forum would understand. |

that's awesome! i just get excited to hear the pixies on the radio. here in milwaukee, 88.9 has been known to play monkey gone to heaven, is she weird, lala love you, here comes your man, and wave of mutilation.

| I also once heard "Bullet" at the H&M in Berlin. I chalked it up to Europe being cooler than US. |

| I was walking past a Top Shop a few years ago in Leeds to hear 'Lolita' blasting out at high volume. I was so taken aback that I stopped dead in my tracks and the people walking behind me almost knocked me over. |

Ok I didn't hear a song in public but I did enjoy it the other week when I was walking down the street and some guy saw the Doolittle t-shirt I was wearing and simply exclaimed 'Pixies, nice one!'
I just thought it was funny. I like Oasis, but if I saw a guy wearing an Oasis t-shirt I'd thing 'big deal?'.
It's awesome that Pixies/FB fans get so passionate when they see/hear their favourite band represented in public. There's such a community feeling to it.

Exactly the same thing happened to me last March. I've had people comment many times on other shirts, but I think you're right about the FB fan base. |

I used to have a PIXIES logo vinyl-cut sticker on the back windshield of my old car. It was their TROMPE logo (absolutely the best!). Anyway, almost a decade ago I was driving down a long road with only one other car which was directly behind me. They were following me for about a mile when I became aware how close they were tailing me. Then they pulled up along my drivers side...I was thinking WHAT THE FUCK?! Then, to my glee, the driver held up a copy of the CD of Trompe le Monde and honked and gave me a thumbs up and raced off into the distance.

This is a strange thread. It never occured to me that I might ever hear an FB song in public. If I ever do I hope it's Abstract Plain. Don't know why. I just think it would be cool.

i heard the intro to Ramona in between segments on NPR once. does that count as "public?" i got Garbage Heap played on the radio here in milwaukee earlier this year.

This topic came up years ago, and I think I replied. It's been so long, the song may be incorrect, but I did hear a Frank song once while shopping at The Gap...I want to say it was Speedie Marie. I just remember being dumbfounded and staring up at the ceiling during the whole song. Hearing a Frank song in public is like seeing a teacher at the store...removed from normal reality.

in a similar sense, the last time i saw frank live, i looked around at everyone else at the show and thought "who ARE these people? why don't i know them? shouldn't we be hanging out? shouldn't we have a monthly meet-up, like AA or something?"
