Far from us to be guitar geeks! But the songs do sound alot different if Charles's guitar is prominent in the mix, or Joey's. Take "Dead" for example, which wasn't played last night. Either you're propelled along but Charles's cathartic pulsating rhythm or Joey's amazing effect-laden bends. Gigantic at the end sounded really punky as it was Joey's guitar that piereced through and I could barely hear Charles doing the rhythm. This wasn't a bad thing at all - it was like hearing the songs remixed and getting new stuff from them. Maybe it all sounded different if you stood elsewhere. Can someone post the set as Kim said there were slight changes on the order of the night before? |

Well he had the pickups in the middle setting on his Telecaster; just sounded like mud with the distortion. For a few songs he put it onto the bridge pickup, which sounded way better (Velouria, Debaser etc). |

Ah, is that what was going on? I was rather disappointed with Bone Machine, due to the muddy guitar sound you mention. The guitars sounded better balanced later on, really good in Isla de Encanta actually. |

Yeah, that was one of the best ones of the night.
I don't like speculating much, but it seemed from where I was that the band weren't too happy with the sound at the start, either.

For 'Vamos', Joey set his Les Paul in the middle of the stage, facing down, and hauled it back by tugging on the cable. Crazy sound! |

Yeah I kinda got that impression too, although wasn't sure if what happened on Rock Music might've contributed to the mood...
Did anyone else think Dave was struggling at times anyway? Debaser in particular seemed to be at snail's pace by the time it finished...

From where I was, Charles starting singing 'Rock Music' a little too late... hence the confusion.
Joey looked really perplexed during 'Velouria'... seemed like half the band were playing at a different speed to the rest!

I'm sure Charles missed a vocal cue in Bone Machine and then had to sprint to catch up with the rest of the band, don't know if that was a hangover from Rock Music or something else.. Didn't notice anything up with Velouria though. And even with the early fluffs I think I enjoyed this more than the Doolittle shows. |

How good was it to see the man holler like that? Caribou!
I looked over at Kim smiling to herself. I don't know if it was because of a joke she was telling herself at the time, but I like to think it was because that holler is just out of this world. It blows everything out of the water. He should park himself down the Gulf and scream that oil back into the pipe. |

The two of them were on great form throughout the show, weren't they? |

All that water under the bridge, all those years gone by, that connection between the two of them still looks as strong as ever. Surely they both know deep down they need to colaborate for the sake of rock and roll. They were made for each other. All four of them were meant to be together.
Even the Pixies going through the motions (not saying they were Friday) is a kind of art. It's the Pixies. What more can you say. Awesome. Sometimes the songs are secondary to what you see happening on stage.
One negative. Sack the smoke machine :) |

Charles' guitar tone was quite different than before, which is quite a significant factor. I know this'll sound pedantic and guitar geeky though!
Doesn't Charles usually play an acoustic guitar for half of the songs? Looks like it's all electric this tour.
it's educational |

Any setlist forthcoming?
I'd drank too much beer to contribute to anything so sensible. Had flown down from Newcastle and been up since 4am so was rather tired and emotional. TA! |

He has a special piezo bridge on two of his Telecasters. They have both the output from the pickups, and the output from the bridge, and he uses a pedal to switch between them.
For some songs ('Number 13 Baby', 'Here Comes Your Man'), he blends the two. Very effective. |

The order of the first 4/5 songs is intended to be the same as the Bossanova tour, apparently. |

Setlist is similar to Bossanova, but on the European leg of that tour they launched into Levitate Me off Cecilia Ann, and then Debaser before Rock Music. Was an awesome start (particularly when Dead followed on from Rock Music)! |

I was listening to the 'Here We Come' bootleg... fantastic version of 'Levitate Me' where they begin it with the chorus (with no vocals).

Haha! Doesn't seem to have happened, does it?
I had a great time, don't get me wrong, but I don't think I'd enjoy listening to an audio version of the show. |

Yes I really want to hear a recording of the show as I found the punky, lead-heavy way they performed alot of the material really great. So hope if they don't release it someone ups a bootleg somewhere! |

Be a shame if they didn't, especially if it's already been recorded. I only went second night but would love a copy of it - warts and all! |

'Allison' sounds way better than in 2005. Dave's drumming is amazing!
Doesn't sound as bright and jangly as on the record though. |
