Woohoo-my first thread! I want to hear stories about people screaming requests at the Man and it pissing you off. Here's two of mine.
Fast Man Raider Man tour- Guy screams "Los Angeles" throughout the whole show. I at least give the guy some credit for not screaming a Pixies song.
Grand Duchy show- Guy screams "Gigantic" multiple times as if Violet is not her own person and is just a Kim Deal plugin. |

the more that time passes the less i've noticed people scream pixies songs. the first fb show i went to a few people were yelling pixies songs the whole time and i wanted to punch them. same at stephen malkmus shows people always request pavement songs.

I'm an offender. On the Cult of Ray tour (1994?), I wrote "Where Is My Mind?" on the back of a business card and tried to hand it to him in the middle of the show. He looked at me and asked, "Can't you see I'm working here?" He did take the card and put in his pocket, but he didn't do any Pixies songs. Can't say I blame him, especially back then, when he was trying to establish himself as a solo artist. Anymore, though, it seems a Pixies song is a Frank Black song is a Black Francis song. It's all disco, right?
And all of this for nuthin', after all my huffin' and puffin'. |

That's not so bad what you did coastline, I just think it's a little disrespectful to the artist and the the rest of the crowd to scream something out while someone "is trying to work." Point also taken that it's all disco, but when Frank is in the middle of singing a nice stripped down version of "My Terrible Ways" and someone screams "Los Angeles" over and over, something about that bothers me. Should it bother me? Does anyone else in the forum scream requests for songs? I'd like to hear a justification for it. |

any screaming during songs bothers me. screaming requests is wrong in more ways than just the bothering aspect.
as a justification for it though, i always try to think that the screamer is really drunk. don't know if that helps. it's not really a justification, is it?
it's educational |

Some guys I know don't scream song names but song #s on the album. I find it hilarious. "PLAY THE FIFTH! THE FIFTH!"

I think it's totally fine to yell songs out. it's flattering. as long as it's not the "Hit" or "hits" or "single" or whatever. the more obscure the song the better. I don't want to hear where is my mind live ever again.

I don't see what it would matter if between songs when he's just bullshitting with the crowd anyway if someone yelled out Steak n Sabre! or something. Yeah a Pixies request of any kind would be lame though. Freebird is more of a joke than a request. Freebird!

I yelled out the name of my favorite song, "Dead", at Pixies' last London show in 91. But only after Charles said they had no setlist and were taking requests all night. It got played too. Thanks Dave, that was the best intro to a song I ever heard.

I suppose it's better to be the musician with fans craving your songs, than the person working 40 hours a week and struggling just to get a gig. But I know what you all mean, it might screw up the artists focus on a song when you you hear people screaming for your classics. |

Hey at last I understand the "Freebird" joke! It's the song at the end of Devil's Rejects!

When The Breeders played in Santiago a few years ago there were some guys screaming "Debaser" and "Corazón Diablo". That was weird! |

Cool first thread, trapperj.
This topic reminds me of when my cousin just in a regular talking voice said "Old Black Dawning" during the 2009 solo tour. The room all of a sudden got very quiet as he was saying this, and then BF/FB just launched right into it. I was kind of embarrassed at the time because of the whole dancing bear thing. But looking back, it was pretty cool.
When people scream songs once, it ok if it's during a break in between songs and there's no banter. It's when it's over and over, it's pretty annoying.
What really gets me is people who whistle really loud during the song. It's very shrill and very annoying. I haven't experienced it at a FB/BF show, but it's really a pain.
