In light of the latest forum 'battle of the albums' Doolittle vs. TLM, it seems only fair that we pit these two albums against each other as well.

I'd say that Bossanova is probably my favourite Pixies album, but in all honesty I find it difficult to choose between it and Surfer Rosa, if you know what I mean.

Both albums are packed full of epic tunes, but I really like the production sound of Bossanova.

I think I can guess what most people will vote for.

Come On Pilgrim is a separate entity from Surfer Rosa.

that's.... i don't understand. i put CoP together with PIXIES to form the original purple tape (naturally), but surfer rosa's it's own beast. you're not allowed to disagree with this, pot.

but if it's SR v BOSSA, i have to go with bossanova. it'd be my undisputed favorite album if trompe and TOTY didn't exist. it has my favorite pixies song (and thus favorite song? hmm) The Happening, while Surfer Rosa has Where is my Mind, which i don't really ever need to hear again.
PLUS, blown away, rock music, ana, alison, stormy weather...

Surfer Rosa is wonderful, though. it's the sound of the pixies in many minds, after all. it's frightening and brutal. i love it.

In the UK the CD version of Surfer Rosa is sold as 'Surfer Rosa & Come on Pilgrim'. Come to think of it I've never seen these separately apart from on vinyl.

Might be why some people think of it as one album.

I'm gonna have to vote Surfer Rosa.

Uuuuh OK. You are right. I suppose we could just make it Surfer Rosa then. I always think of them as one album, because they have always been one album for me and they sound a lot like they could be off one album, I'm sure I'll get toasted by someone from Puerto Rico for saying that.

I'm only acquiescing with you because you voted Bossanova.

Definitely seperate albums for me as I bought them on vinyl and only got them on CD many years later. COP's got labelled an EP but it played at 33rpm, it's an album to me. And I think as an album it beats all other Pixies albums. I might prefer the madness of SR or the hard lines of Bossa but as a collection of great songs start to finish it's Come On Pilgrim for me.

When I purchased my first copy of Surfer Rosa it came with Come On Pilgrim at the ass end of the CD. It was 1989 and I was stationed in Okinawa Japan. Most of the CD case is in Japanese writing. My biggest mistake was lending it to someone who I thought I could trust and they left it in their car to warp. It was replaced but with a copy of Surfer Rosa only. I still have the worthless cd and case. So unfortunately for me, as time has moved on, I now look at them as two separate entities. Damn you 1993 and no cd burning capabilities!!!

edit
Oh and Surfer to win.

edit
Someone uploaded this crappy image to Amazon but if you look close you'll see it's titled 'Pixies: SURFER ROSA & Come on Pilgrim' also you'll see the last song is titled 'Levitate Me' which is the last song on COP.

I had Chained and Tame confused when I had a
cassette player.

I also had a cassette of Surfer Rosa, then I
bought the Surfer Rosa/Come On Pilgrim CD
before I had a CD player.

Surfer changed everything.

Surfer to win.
