I just hope it's a longer set than just Doolittle + B sides, which would be a little short!

I will say only this:

The only songs being performed are Doolittle + b-sides.

However

Add about 10 minutes onto that. That's all i'll say.

dootlittle + b-sides is 55:50 mins, so adding 10mins gets you roughly 66 mins which is rather short for a major tour set.
will be interesting to see how this goes.
i thought the tour was billed as doolittle + b-sides + selections from their entire career, or am i making that up?

all i can say, thank god for polio! brian

It'd be a bit disappointing to only have an hour long set, especially when you're paying just short of £40 for a ticket!

Francis said in his blog for September that some other "surprises" will be thrown in.. probably has to do with the show length.

Surely not.

They're not. That is why this is called the DOOLITTLE tour - its a tour of all the materials (album songs and b-sides) from DOOLITTLE.

And i think the multimedia aspects of the show (from what i hear) and the debut of so many rarely played songs (Silver, Weird at my School, Dance the Manta Ray, Manta Ray) to a set which should be 20 songs long is a pretty fair event - despite the costs being too high for my liking.

I think we have to drop the expectation from that of a regular Pixies show to simply a DOOLITTLE show. If you go in with those expectations, i'm sure it'll meet them.

Besides, just about everyone in the universe had a chance to see the Pixies do a "greatest hits" set from 2004-6 - i, for one, welcome a different setlist than the last time i saw them.

Well yeah, I'm still really excited about it. Those b sides alone are marvellous songs.

A lot of bands doing the 'Don't Look Back' shows, playing a classic album, tend to bulk up the set with a handful of extras though. It wouldn't do the band many favours to only play for an hour.

true- its always good to into concerts with no expectations. i think hearing doolittle in its entirety will be a cool experience regardless of the extras.

silver and manta ray will be nice additions too

Where did you hear that they are only going to be playing songs from Doolittle? I'd really like to know.

Why wouldn't they play a short set of songs from the rest of their work at the end? Just because it is called the Doolittle tour doesn't mean they can only going to play songs from Doolittle! It just means that as part of the set they will be playing the whole album + B sides.

Now that might take a large part of the set, but it's by no means what I would call a full set list. What band is going to sell out a place the size of the SECC and then come on stage for just over an hour?

Come on...

And the previous tours have largely consisted of most of the songs from Surfer Rosa, a few from Doolittle and 1 song from the other two albums if you were lucky, hardly what I'd called a 'greatest hits' set.

Ok, your setlist item first: From Surfer Rosa on the entire reunion tour, they have played 8 of the 13 songs, where as they played 14 of the 15 songs from Doolittle. When the tour started, FB said they were only going to play the "A" material from their career - the stuff that really holds up. If that isn't a "greatest hits" set (for a band that never really had a hit), i don't know what is...

Secondly, i heard this from some very reliable sources. I'm not at liberty to say who, but trust me - this is the way it will be.

Third - since when is 20 songs not a satisfiable number for a band's set? I'd rather 20 great songs than 25 with filler. And if you expect a band to play more than 25 songs when you go see them, well sir, you're asking far too much.

What does it have to do with how many songs a band plays? If I pay to see a band play live, a band that have been around for years and have plenty of material I expect an hour and a half, at least, probably an hour and 40 minutes.

A lot of Pixies songs are really short, so yeah I would feel that I had been sold short if they only played for 1 hour and 10 minutes, especially since my ticket cost me 30 odd quid!

Why can't they play a few select songs from the other album? Don't they want please their fans? I'll be very pissed of if they don't and if you think I am asking too much fine, because I don't.

And why can't you reveal what your source on this information is? Why the great veil of secrecy?

Edit. I just calculated the time taken to play doolittle + all the b sides featured on the Doolittle singles that are on the B-sides album and it came out at about 55 minutes.

Now there are some live singles that have stuff from surfer rosa on them, but I would guess they are not going to play them as part of the 'Doolittle' set.

Taking into account pauses and stuff, which I don't expect there to be many of because the Pixies in my experience tend to rattle through the numbers without much stopping in between, we can therefore expect a set of about 1 hour?

1 hour!?

Sorry Brian, but unless I hear if from the horse's mouth that that is ALL they are going to play then I am afraid I just don't buy it.

The only reason I can think of for being 'secretive' about something like that, is that it's completely made up, or they are planning to showcase new material as a surprise.

So you've been given this information that they are only playing Doolittle stuff, and you've been told that you can say that but not give out the details of the source of the information.

That just sounds crazy.

Anyway, I guess we'll find out in a few days soon enough. Whatever happens I'll still be happy to see them play, and I'm going to see them twice! (probably)

Sorry about that Broken Face, thanks for telling us what you know. I'm curious what the extra 10 minutes, multimedia part will be! I think everyone else takes your word at value.
I do however agree that if they only play for about an hour, alot of people would be angry, i know i would. Ticket prices are high, and i'm sure many people are taking trains or road trips from far off places, staying in hotels/motels/hostels to see them, and it would be plain unfair for them to only play for an hour. I think the time they spend playing is more important then the ammount of songs - they could always do an encore of their hits - i bet they could play bone machine and where is my mind in their sleep.

Hey! I don't need an apology on my behalf Flack! If Brian wants to take a hissy fit just because I question what he says then that's nowt to do with me.

Anyway, back to the sourceless rumour milling and speculating.

I was thinking about what this 10 minute 'surprise' might be and about stuff I heard about the unrecorded Bam thwok material, and i considered whether or not this might be new material coupled with an announcement that they are going to re-release a track off Doolittle with the new material as B-side(s).

Alternatively, it could very well turn out to be yet another Minotaur style anti-climax.

Either way I don't really think most fans are that bothered about all this Doolittle set hoo-ha, they just want to see them play live.

Presumbably some film footage that ties in with the songs ('Un Chien Andalou' for 'Debaser', perhaps?). Maybe they've some cast off artwork from 'Minotaur' to project.

Well, he didn't explicitly state that they are definately not going to play other tracks! He just said 'Doolittle + the b sides'

There's only one thing for it. I'm going to have to get in touch with one of my spooks from inside the pentagon, it's the only way to know for sure...
