Polanski made 2 stupid stupid decisions. from what i understand, everyone at the party was doing drugs voluntarily, and the victim engaged in sexual activity voluntarily. however, as we all know, a 13 y/o CANNOT consent. first stupid decision was having sex with the girl, second was fleeing. He should have had his lawyers deal with it then, instead of now.
The waxworks were an immensely eloquent dissertation on the wonderful ordinariness of mankind. |

reminds me of that quote - "There is no such thing as a mistake. There are things you do, and things you don't do." i mean, he was 43 at the time. |

tro brings up some valid points, but like shiney said, he shouldn't have fled, and he should have had his legal team deal with it. what i find ridiculous is when people say things like "he's served his time" (because of the hardship of not being able to come back to the US) or bringing up artistic contributions to society.. i think Polanski is an amazing filmmaker and has no doubt enriched cinema, but that's irrelevant. i'm kind of embarrassed for some of the filmmakers and artists who have signed his petition
what is your favorite film directed by polanski?

Even the prosecutor in the case isn't saying that. Look up the facts, you'll be amazed.

floop, I am in pain, having just seen Bright Star. What do you recommend to ease the discomfort? Thank you, kathryn
I remember sitting in a basement listening to Fields of Marigold until I passed out.

Gosh, I would never criticize your sound advice but I was hoping you'd suggest I steer away from overrated directors. It was so excruciatingly boring. But the Academy will probably toss a nomination at Abbie "Not Resse" Cornish because in this one scene she totally breaks down and weeps herself a river. Anyway really friggin boring movie. Maybe Keitel could have kept the audience awake...
Good call on Roxy, as always.
