Not worth a topic but barely postable: I had a Pixies dream last night: the band was performing Bird Dream of the Olympus Mons with Frank singing while playing bass.
I never said, nor implied, that Kim was really a dude. In fact, I thought she was kinda cute when she was young. What I've been saying is that Kim was, and is, a mental case.
I remember Tin Machine. My mate at school was really in to them. I listened to the album (the first one anyway) when it came out, but it never left much of an impression with me. Must give them a relisten sometime, see how well they've aged. (for want of a better experession since Mr Bowie is of course no longer with us)
Tin Machine I and II are really good albums and have aged well. I thought they should have done more, a new Tin Machine album would have been better than his Earthling period.
So Surfer Rosa turned 30 yesterday. Several articles written about it, one here from The Ringer. http://therin.gr/c2XZYY0
Amazing article, thank you natenate101.
This: " Information about the Pixies was scarce in the early days, and plenty of people who’d heard their early songs (see: the deranged-falsetto-driven “Caribou”) were probably uncertain of the singers’ genders. As were some of the first people to see them live. “I think we all thought they were women,” Throwing Muses frontwoman Kristin Hersh recalls of her first time catching a Pixies show in Boston."
He's a long time Frank fan. I just post this here because it's awesome reading the comments and seeing the younger generation asking "what song is this?" Birth of new fans right before our eyes.
Pixies are playing Ft Lauderdale this weekend, the solstice. I've been there, FL I mean. Three boring weeks drinking miller lite in bars with no atmosphere. It wasn't all bad though I Forrest Gumped a movie awards ceremony by accident and got to see Robert Wise getting a lifetime award. Might have been more fun if my family weren't such a bunch of huns. One of them might be at this selling home brew.
The Baltimore Orioles' ballpark speakers just played a few seconds of "Velouria" during a quiet moment of the O's game against the Mariners. Pretty sure that's the first time I've heard Pixies/FB during a ballgame.
According to Josh Frank on twitter, he and BF are working on a screenplay...no other details shared. How postable this news is I'm not sure but there you go!
