Okay, so the old 'Really not worth a topic' thread is a total mess, with lots of stuff that's really not worth posting AT ALL. So, I thought I'd start a new thread for little articles and things, but not cram it with every little thing that mentions Pixies! So anyway, came across this and hopefully this is an example of something possibly worth posting:

NYTimes.com - Living With Music: A Playlist by Joanna Smith Rakoff.

1) Is She Weird, Pixies. Nowadays, when people talk about the 1990s, the first band they mention is Nirvana, but for me — and most of my college-radio-station-DJ, record-store-regular friends — that era was all about the Pixies, with their irresistible, genre-busting sound: the slow, precise bass, the shifting tempo, the eerie hiss and scream of Black Francis. In 1990, when “Bossanova” came out, I listened to it endlessly — even though it wasn’t on the level of “Doolittle” or “Come on Pilgrim” — thrilled by this brief, odd song, a freaky gloss on Macbeth: “Is she weird? / Is she white? / Is she promised to the night? / And her head has no room.” I was 18 then, and felt very weird and very white.

Yes, let's hope something along these lines materializes. Thanks for sharing this news Stevio10.

It's more interesting to me than a Surfer Rosa reissue #128512;

According to Josh Frank on twitter, he and BF are working on a screenplay...no other details shared. How postable this news is I'm not sure but there you go!

The Baltimore Orioles' ballpark speakers just played a few seconds of "Velouria" during a quiet moment of the O's game against the Mariners. Pretty sure that's the first time I've heard Pixies/FB during a ballgame.

David Lynch just mentioned Perry Mason as one of his all time favorite shows, so there’s another DKL / FBF connection.

Pixies are playing Ft Lauderdale this weekend, the solstice. I've been there, FL I mean. Three boring weeks drinking miller lite in bars with no atmosphere. It wasn't all bad though I Forrest Gumped a movie awards ceremony by accident and got to see Robert Wise getting a lifetime award. Might have been more fun if my family weren't such a bunch of huns. One of them might be at this selling home brew.

Over on Tony Hawk's instagram page there's a clip of his son's band covering HCYM.

There's some nice words by Tony re: the Pixies.

He's a long time Frank fan. I just post this here because it's awesome reading the comments and seeing the younger generation asking "what song is this?" Birth of new fans right before our eyes.

Amazing article, thank you natenate101.

This:
"
Information about the Pixies was scarce in the early days, and plenty of people who’d heard their early songs (see: the deranged-falsetto-driven “Caribou”) were probably uncertain of the singers’ genders. As were some of the first people to see them live. “I think we all thought they were women,” Throwing Muses frontwoman Kristin Hersh recalls of her first time catching a Pixies show in Boston."

Apparently lots of us thought BF was a F.

Tin Machine live were massively self-indulgent but they were stunning gigs, I prefer their garagey Debaser to Bowie's solo take on Cactus.
Stevio10 Posted - 02/19/2018 : 08:38:53
Tin Machine I and II are really good albums and have aged well. I thought they should have done more, a new Tin Machine album would have been better than his Earthling period.
pot Posted - 02/18/2018 : 03:26:00
I remember Tin Machine. My mate at school was really in to them. I listened to the album (the first one anyway) when it came out, but it never left much of an impression with me. Must give them a relisten sometime, see how well they've aged. (for want of a better experession since Mr Bowie is of course no longer with us)

Doesn't sound like Bowie on the vocals at all? Sounds more like Bon Scott. Is that really Bowie singing? Yes it's Bowie.

I never said, nor implied, that Kim was really a dude. In fact, I thought she was kinda cute when she was young. What I've been saying is that Kim was, and is, a mental case.

Young Kim when she was a cutie.

Point taken, but it still looks stupid IMHO.

Not worth a topic but barely postable: I had a Pixies dream last night: the band was performing Bird Dream of the Olympus Mons with Frank singing while playing bass.

It was great.
