03 Sept 2009 ~ from bf.net

"As far as things go, Black Francis is recording again, recording again indeed. A new record involving EDF has commenced at Ocean Way Studios in Los Angeles and will continue in London."

Sounds good!

Ocean Way Studios is a pretty fancy place. Michael Jackson, Beck, Radiohead, Tom Petty, Elvis Costello, and countless others have recording some of their best work there. This is great news. I loved the production of Bluefinger, but I'm looking forward to hearing something different with EDF. He's done some of his best work with him.

Makes sense, I suppose, if he's recording in London prior to the tour kicking off.

It's a shame Doog doesn't have the white Contemporary Tele anymore, that we could wander over and ceremoniously 'present' to BF, and demand that he plays it to bring back the memories haha

I'm hoping for something as ridiculously raunchy as Soft Cell's Sex Dwarf (from their Non-Stop Erotic Cabaret album which I'm guessing BF is referencing). Today's Soho won't give him any inspiration though.

BF in London. I'm happy.

This may go down badly but I probably won't go to another Pixies show. I can't remember anything about the 2004 Brixton Show and I had a blast at Alexandra Palace in 2005 but I don't want my memories of all the 1988-1991 shows messed with (I did start to feel that happening). Just a personal preference, that's all. It's great that Pixies keep going this way if it means thousands of fans get to see them live for the first time. That's who I think these shows are really for.

Are you going Ziggy?

Here's one for ya. Joey smashing up his guitar (not his gold one) at the end of a Brixton '91 show. C'mon Youtube, I wanna see that happen again.

Brilliant. Why'd he do that? Was he pissed off or something? You heard Tame as it should be heard. Wow. Where's the "You Wish You Were There" Pixie thread?

I know it's our natural impulse to want this in our possession as soon as possible, but I hope they hold off on releasing this for a while. If it comes out too soon it will be overshadowed by the Pixies tours and we'll never get a proper tour for it and a good deal of the songs may never be heard live (look what happened to Honey Comb, and to an extent Fast Man...). New FB/EDF is way more exciting to me (and I suspect many of you) than a Pixies tour and I want it to receive the attention it deserves.

Wait!
They already holded on for a long time!
They're talking about working on that record since 2005 or something like that. I'd like to know the exact story by the way, because I can remember Frank saying EDF was "still working on it" and it was a long time ago. Maybe he was just "working on" making the recording possible...
Dont worry about that. That record got to be done!
With Honeycomb and FMRM he didnt tour because the band was all jet set rockers. It will be easier with edf.

Really excited for this record.

Like most bands they must have joked about it I guess, then Joey went and did it, heh.

Funny you mentioning Tame. It was really exciting hearing them play it when they couldn't tell how an audience would take it. And then they quickly figured out they could amuse themselves with how weirdly crowd-pleasing it was. Here's a Juicy Fruit/scary clown version

That would erase the whole reason I'm excited about this record.

I think there's some great tracks hidden within Honeycomb and Fastman but something about the musicians involved or the way they were recorded totally stripped them of life for me. I'd take live versions of any of those songs over the album versions without a doubt.

It'd totally get me down if the magic of bf/edf was lost under layers and layers of gloss.

Saying that, I love how the back catalogue has grown so wide ranging that it can easily accommodate vastly different reasons to love his music.

If this has Deadman's Curve and the Rabbit Hole, than it will probably be the best Black Francis/Frank Black album in a while

Any rumours as to who's recording with him?

Thinking aloud, it'd be a bold and cunning move to get the Pixies to reunite on one or two tracks on the album!

I m bored of the Pixies.
EDF and Frank Black is a better reunion. They are the real actual Pixies.
By the way, I hope it s a FRANK BLACK record.
Because to me the Pixies became Frank Black with the yellow album.
Look...
PIXIES ON TROMPE LE MONDE> SANTIAGO BLACK DEAL LOVERING FELDMAN
PIXIES ON THE ORANGE ALBUM> BLACK FELDMAN VINCENT SANTIAGO
Its ok, he justed changed the drummer and the bassist... They still were the pixies, under the name of Frank Black.
The ONLY little problem is that not a lot of people felt the same and the money didnt follow, and for that reason, we got the old pixies reunion. They re history.
The real pixies now are Frank Black and EDF.

Yeah, don't really by the new pixies thing either, but am still glad EDF is producing with Charles. The two are a good creative fit.
