Soft Metals new album has just turned up on 3voor12. Just checking it out now, sounds pretty awesome so far. I got into this track through Last.fm radio, nice bit of new wave electronica.

Indeed.
I remember sitting in a basement listening to Fields of Marigold until I passed out.

Really enjoying the new Prinzhorn Dance School album! Nice pixies-esque bass and guitar, male female combo vocals, quite punk like The Tings. Good lyrics

Great video this from their previous album. Girl in it is nice as well.

I LOVE the start of the year for music. Here's another great recommendation. The new PEPE DELUXE album. A concept hippie album, not sure how to describe it it's quite funky, over the top, funny. Maybe a bit like Belle and Sebastian.., on acid.
I smoked a bowl this morning and listened to this while cooking a risotto. It was groovy.
Hope you enjoy, also on 3voor12 just came on today

On an 80s synth night
First up I'd like to recommend this Nick Gilder track, which I just found it my iTunes. Downloaded a load of rare 80s album from a site than sadly no longer exists now, occasionally stumble across a wee gem, like this
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_ym8o5MOVM4
Anyone seen Drive yet? Quote a good retro 80s film/partly sound track Bit eromantic, the script is quite sparse and the director lets the characters convey the mood, which tends to involve boy meet girls and they both instantly fall in love kind of thing. Story centres around a stunt car guy who gets embroiled in some ganster shit. Good film, nice to see an action film that isn't all stereo-misogynist one liners and cutting scenes every 3 seconds. Whoever directed this films knows how to let a script breath. Only the best knows how to do that so looking out for more from whoever made this film.

Took me a few listens but I'm getting into the new Chairlift album today. Reminds me a bit of Ladyhawke's 2008 debut retro 80s synth classic.
I bet the new Grand Duchy album, or the forthcoming follow up to Ladyhawke aren't as good as this. Heard one track of the new Ladyhawke one and it just didn't do it for me, but saying that when I heard Amanameamia or whatever it's called I didn't much like it. Kind of grows on you though. Video for it is shit so that didn't help, as is the new Ladyhawke video, annoying and shit.
Live version of track 2 does the studio version justice on this clip, but the sound ain't so good.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b0TwgdGvIv4
So here is the studio version + track 3.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WI9N94i0vbQ
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j_aTOyFRwJ0
And this is my favourite track from the first album, beautiful and haunting.

How's the sound, how's the sound using line-out? What accesories do you have? Do you use it with a speaker?
What headphones are you using? I need to fix or replace my Sonys, I'm not happy. |

Just started to listening to the new album by some guy called Minco Eggersman under the title Reservoirs by ME. ME is the name of the band he put together I think. Half way through track 3 and here I am raving about it already. Can't find any youtube clips but the album is up to stream in full here now. Atmospheric and uplifting male-female vocal combo pop rock.

It's been a good week on 3voor12 for new albums, now listening to We Are Nobody by The Chap. All good songs but particularly like the one called Look At The Girl. All kind of Belle & Sebastian like stuff. |

Another one today. New Andrew Bird album on 3voor12. Rootsy, folksy, country kind of bluegrass acoustic rock.

Found '(What's The Story) Morning Glory?' by Oasis lying around the house a few days ago and thought I'd give it a spin for old times sake on the way to work. Absolutely loving it!
I was really into Oasis when I was about 15 years old, then I discovered the Pixies and FB's back catalogues and Oasis didn't get a listen anymore. As soon as 'Hello' started to play in the car the other day I was hooked all over again. I must have listened to the album 5 times since.
Also, The Masterplan has got to be one of my favourite B-Sides ever. They had some great B-Sides.
I don't expect Oasis have many fans on this forum, maybe one or two?

I'm not a fan of them but I like some of their earlier stuff. I had just moved to Manchester when they released What's the Story and remember listening to it on the radio in the student halls on the day it came out. The Gallagher brothers are a pair of annoying cunts but you have to give them credit for what they have done. Manchester is a very depressing city but I enjoyed the three years I lived there. I worked in a busy student pub when I lived there and apparently Oasis played there once in their early days before they made it big, one of the doorman who worked there went to school with them and The Stone Roses
This is without doubt one of the best tracks that emerged fromt he brit pop era,
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R2poqYvWsyU
which I am glad faded very quickly to make way again for top quality indie music like this
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r5DlVmgDLJs
Champagne Supernova is also a great tune
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SRu6YRr1KtM
This song also was big about the time I graduated in Glasgow just before I went to Manchester to do my master and when I hear it it always reminds me of that time
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4fLR3FRaFsQ
I remember working in a nightclub in Glasgow when they were just making it big and someone who worked there talking about them them and how he reckonned they were going to huge as fuck. Gotta say never liked them that much but looking back how right he was... |

Princess Superstar's debut album, 'Strictly Platinum'. I'd listened to a few songs from her more popular 'Is' (remember Bad Babysitter?) and thought they were ok, average, bad even. The songs on 'Strictly Platinum' are just, I don't know...groovier?
It took me by surprise. There are Beatle's samples and stuff that sounds like it could be part of Spinal Tap's 'Jazz Odyssey', or some Beastie Boys track, all blended together. I never thought that would amount to anything enjoyable but fuck it, it's kinda good.

Had a wee 80s retro new wave wynth party last night on youtube, over a bottle of irish whisky. Got this track called Goose Step by Hilary (Blake) in a compilation of rare 80s tracks I downloaded from btj a while back. Really great track, but apparently it comes off a rare 12" that she released way back in 1983 called Kinetic, she never released anything else after that. Love this track-

Really enjoying the new Micatone album which was up on 3voor12 the other day. Nu-jazz from germany or something.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lqVRCs5_DU8
Also this track from Nite Jewel
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U6UiZ6QOXRk
And this one from Class Actress
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5XdTr23ABQk&ob=av2e
Also enjoying the new Tall Firs album Out of it and into it, very much like Sonic Youth when they turn down the reverb and chill out a bit. Might steal the title and rename my In through the out door photo album with it, or perhaps use it as an alternative name, or have two complimentary title taht reflect in some way the concept of the album. |
