The office radio is tuned to Pearl Jam station all day, so I'm listening to that. Never really understood this band or got into them at all, though I am friends with some fanatics of the band. |

Really digging the new Camila Sparksss album. I didn't know she even did her own solo work. She is in the Swiss-Canadian avont garde indie band Peter Kernel (who I am also massive fans of)

Interestingly, after I posted my Cardigans album cover parody on Instagram and tagged @emmerdale the soap one of the actresses from Emmerdale started following me on Instagram. I didn't realise until recently (because I'm also a fan of the soap Emmerdale (Farm) that has been running wince 1972 that the band chose this title for their debut album because they are also fans! |

New Mountain Goats album seems pretty good (so far) I can only vouch for the first five songs as yet. |

Sting and Shaggy have a nice little diddy called "Don't Make Me Wait" if you haven't already heard it. You may like it. |

Dearie me, Sting and Shaggy? Is it a wind up? lol Pass...
How about... the new Lamb album is quite good? especially this track
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Eb7C9ZKmz4Y
And I've had the new Mountain Goats album on repeat for the past few days, it's very good. I think I like it more than previous albums I've listened to so it might be their best album ever. It's really laid back, and well produced. Reminds me of Silver Jews and Dire Straits, and maybe a little bit of FB & the C's...

Really been enjoying all that alt country that was recommended to me. Thanks a bunch for those. Otherwise I've been listening to a lot of Chrome, Scott Walker, Kristin Hersh and all her projects, Julian Cope and stuff like that. And lots of old post punk. I'm trying to start my own band to play a few local shows over the summer so I'm studying up.
----------------------- Q: Where do Pixies keep their instruments when they're not playing? A: Debasement. |

I've had "Lucky Day" in my head for two days
Lucky Day is a good song. Never heard them before, I like them.
Lucky Day reminds me of an old punk classic, but I don't think it's a cover? |

It's not a cover, she talked to me about writing the song.
Yeah it's really damn catchy...almost every single one of her songs is really catchy! She's the first new artist I've gotten into in literally years. |

I remember reading a review that said this song mimics the melody of Big Star's "September Gurls" so closely that Alex Chilton should get royalties for the song.

Heh I hear the similarities! Alex Chilton could (and probably should have) received Royalties from pretty much every indie rock band such was his influence |

Today I learned that "Dream On" is an Aerosmith song (thanks to office radio).
I always thought it was Led Zeppelin or the Stones or somebody.
Annoying song to say the least. |

Can some explain this to me? a hip hop song by Frank Black & Ike Ellis that just came up on my Spotify release radar. Clicking the link on Frank Black takes you to Frank Black the alt-indie rock stalwart's Spotify page. p.s. this song is shit and I'm only listening to it because it said it was by Frank Black

David Berman is back apparently, with a new album and a new band called Purple Mountains
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JZKMa-ByLBQ
He's my favourite Jew of all time. Of the band the Silver Jews that is anyway. Last time he released an album I was in Holland, living on a chicken farm.
Also,
BROADCAST
aka Trish Keenan. Been going since the early 90's apaprently, yet unknown to me until today when Radio 6 played one of their songs. Very Stereolab, but more lo-fi/indie/experimental and less acid jazzy. Well worth a listen to all their albums. I just did the full back catalgoue on Spotify, not a bad way to kill another afternoon in the house with a gammy leg.

I am trying out this new Thom Yorke thing, Anima. So far so good.
A lot of people dig this guy it seems. And as the podcast mentioned, he seems to dig the Pixies. |

Can't be fucked with Thom Yorke. It's nothing but a Radiohead wank party these days on the radio. It's like listening to how shite my own life would be if it was someone else was experiencing it.
Berman is where mid-life crisis art-rock is at this year. |
