i do that sometimes (in a well aired room). one time i ended up listening to this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LIxKrgw-xgc i tried to get into it but all i came up with were some ugly thoughts.. Why did he hit John?...etc.
FIDLAR i didn't know actually until you mentioned them some time ago.
yeah, i should check the rest of the new MGMT. when they were on the Congratulations tour they played a concert in the vicinity, place was a city square and admission was 1€ (sponsored event for charity) but i couldn't go. crapola.
should check new Arcade Fire, too. i liked all three previous albums and though i'm sometimes a little put off by some of the band theatrics, Butler is an excellent songsmith.
should also put the new Spike Jonze film on to see list. AF did the music for it. |

i like that Arcade Fire album, but side two is a little boring to me. 2nd track reminds me of November Rain (which isn't necessarily a bad thing, just sort of distracting). That Orpheus song (not sure if that's the title) sounds VERY MUCH like a certain Mew song. all in all the first disc is a hoot and the 2nd disc is a bit drab. IN MY OPINION, FLOOP; STOP BEING A DICK ABOUT IT.

not sure what your point is, friendo. they're one of the most talented and exciting rock bands of the past 20 years. i also enjoy Arcade Fire oodles.

well, it's cold and snowy and cold, so Modest Mouse's The Moon And Antarctica has come out of summer hibernation. it's my go-to cold and snowy and cold album. it's aged so well and is easily their best album.
also, Antiphon (the new midlake alb) and Neon Bible by, of course, the world famous Arcade Fire have sort of turned into christmas albums for me. the latter has been getting some attention the past week.

i'm enjoying the 9-song cycle from Pixies 2.0.
Hexe is a generic song, but it's wrapped up in awesome Joey-ness. i like to think of it as a cover and the Pixies have made a better version of it, as they tend to do. i also like to recall T Rex rather than AC/DC during the chorus.
G&B has grown on me a lot. i'll allow it.
the thing with Snakes- the drum beat during the chorus. i've never liked that type of drum beat during choruses in songs. it's like it's supposed to drive the chorus in a powerful way, but it always comes off as limp to me. that's a full-fledged nit-pick, and i otherwise dig the song a lot.
Bag Boy is just awesome. it's obvious now why they chose it over the others to reintroduce themselves.
i've always loved Another Toe. the verse melody/lyric is the most "Frank" moment out of all these tunes, and it gladdens my heart.
What Goes Boom is my favorite. that chorus is sublime.
Magdalena 318 is just what the doctor ordered. bone thrown and happily gnawed.

I was under the assumption that that is one of the quaffed ones solos albums. I won't confirm that by googleing though. I have already listened to it too many times as it is. |

uh. I googled that shit anyway. It is solo. I really should buy one of his albums. The guy is unique. I don't think I've ever heard of anyone ever being accused of sounding like him. I've imitated him though, once it resulted in me being momentarily strangled with a rag. My assailant was Mexican and as it turned out easily offended. |

Classic Morrissey story dan, one that could easily have happened to the man himself, so much so I doubt whether the man's LA villa has a serviceable pool anymore.

You might like Everything Everything. Their first album from 2010, 'Man Alive', which I've recently stumbled upon, is great and clearly influenced by XTC and They Might Be Giants among others. It's all over the place style wise, ridiculously catchy and stands up to repeated listening.
The follow up 'Arc' is also pretty good but less manic. Worth getting for 5 or 6 tracks but tragically it veers dangerously close to Coldplay at times. |
