i'm so thrilled about some albums lately, but i don't want to make a new topic for each one, so here's the list:

DEERHUNTER - microcastle
i just discovered this a couple months ago, and it's easily one of the best albums i've ever heard. i can't stop listening to it!

THE HANDSOME FAMILY - honey moon
beautiful, nearly flawless album. rennie sparks never disappoints. great summer night album.

ANIMAL COLLECIVE - merriweather post pavillion
haven't stopped listening to this one since january. endlessly wonderful.

Um. Fleet Foxes. Eponymous.

I remember sitting in a basement listening to Fields of Marigold until I passed out.

I love the Deerhunter as well...those 2 cd's Microcastle and Weird Era are great. And the Animal Collective as well. I liked the Fleet Foxes cd from last summer: I just got it the beginning of this year. So can't add too much to your list of anything new.

I am excited that new Wilco is coming out next week.

Super, the friend who turned me on to Fleet Foxes raved about Bon Iver, so he's on my list of artists to check out.

I should have also mentioned Petits Fours regarding music I'm listening to, though that may be obvious.

I was going to say Deerhunter - Microcastle, and glad to see others agree.

If you haven't heard Microcastle, you're seriously missing out. It's like one of those 3000 calorie desserts that start with a gooey brownie on the bottom and then have ice cream and then topping after topping of deliciousness.

I've been listening to a ton of Josh Ritter lately. "Hello Starling" is great. So is "The Animal Years." He's a fantastic songwriter. He writes interesting songs about interesting topics -- a la FB. His entire catalog is listenable (for free, and legally) at imeem.com -- http://www.imeem.com/artists/josh_ritter/albums/

Please pardon me, for these my wrongs.

a surprise for me lately has been the new EELS album (hombre lobo). i've liked eels for some time now, but i've never been thrilled about any of their music. this album, however, nails it. he simply excels at stripped down rock n roll. the second song and "fresh blood" are my favorites.

I get burned out on any artist that ain't frank black, but I was feelin Tapes 'n Tapes for a time.
These are both links to the same song, Hang Them All.
The first is a music video. The second is a live performance. It's quite hypnotic to just watch the drummer do his thing. He's a machine.

I found out about them from my highschool girlfriend, Tickley Feather, who just finished recording her second album on their (animal collective) label and will be touring europe with them in the fall. I give you her myspace because you can listen to some of her older songs. Her myspace is also way cooler than yours. http://www.myspace.com/tickleyfeather She's often compared to Ariel Pink, http://www.myspace.com/arielpink The only reason I know any of this is cause her.

Annie also really likes this band Beach House, ever heard? this video is really cool http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s2YiUTh9dj4

I have to say none of the LINKED music listed is doing it for me. In fact one group made me shudder, because it sounded so much like Neutral Milk Hotel. Thank you hammerhands my ears bleed.

I have to tell you I do enjoy a bit of the Baboon album you recommended.

What's really been doing it for me lately is this band, Elephant Boy, I guess you could boil them down to a bar band, who was based in the town I went to college. I saw them a bunch of times, hung out with some of them and the turkey fryer, gave me a ride in their tour bus one time, it was good times. I pulled the CD out of the bin where had been collecting dust for about 10 years the other day and I really liked it again. Looked them up on the interent and it turns out they're having a 20th year reunion show. Too bad I'll be out of town. I really thought they would become famous, they had a audition with warner brothers, who said they sounded too much like beastie boys, chili pepeprs and sublime. Damn. I have a feeling most people here won't get much from them, but you can preview their album, a live album, the only official recording they ever made, on amazon.http://www.amazon.com/Live-Griffith-Stadium-Elephant-Boy/dp/B00003ZAJW I'll upload the entire album if anyone cares. The guitar player is amazing. The fact that they have a DJ who also does background vocals I felt made them unique. JoJo, he was so funny and quirky and awesome. Anyways, doing it for me.
