I discussed with my fellow travellers whether we should go to Stockholm thursday or friday. We ended up saying friday. Worst decision ever. Damn!
I really hope people who are able to get there see this. |

Boom Chicka Boom! I don't know about the rehearsal concert, but here's my view on the concert Friday at "Where The Action Is":
The concert was a blast right from the opener, "Cecilia Ann". My first impression was that they had chosen a "risky" setlist with mainly "Bossanova" and "Trompe Le Monde" tracks. We had "Cecilia Ann", "Head On", "U-Mass" and "Allison" among the first tracks, but then slowly the more "common" hits began to conquer the setlist (although they left out "Where Is My Mind" and "Vamos" - how controversial). Nonetheless it was a much more "chilled" band this time around (I first saw them in 2004), just taking it easy, making "beginner" mistakes, having long breaks and Kim talking sweet nonsense, while Charles mainly stayed quiet (and tired). Worth mentioning was "In Heaven" as a duet between Kim and Charles. It seemed insecure and unrehearsed, but it was quite beautiful. But the real surprise was "Boom Chicka Boom" which appeared at the middle of the show. Never thought I should hear that one live. That was fucking amazing! Hope other Pixies fans get to hear that on this tour.
They concluded the setlist with "Winterlong", which was obviously a tribute to the big headliner Neill Young who was to appear at the same stage about an hour later. A perfect way to end a much better Pixies concert than the great, but much more conservative, concert they delivered at the Roskilde Festival in 2004. I missed the acoustic guitar, but it was all good, baby. A nice night out with "the fucking sellouts".
"Boom Chicka Boom"! What more can you ask for?

ScienceBlogs - Aardvarchaeology - Where The Action Is Rock Festival, Day 1.

And then the band I really came for: the Pixies, who released their last album in 1991. I love them, I love Frank Black's solo work, never attended a gig before. I knew from live recordings that the Pixies used to play their songs pretty much like on the records, and they still do. When the time came for a cover even that was a tune they used to play back in the day. It was an excellent Pixies gig, I certainly wasn't disappointed, but it seems a little odd that someone as creative and productive as Frank Black wouldn't ask the band to learn a new tune or two. |

It seems like prayers of this forum have been heard. "Bossanova" really got attention at this gig. "Dig For Fire" was amazing.
Forgot to mention "Caribou" - shivers down my spine! Absolutely one of the best live tracks from the Pixies, which we were reminded yesterday. |

Hey! Great review. It's awesome that Mr. Black himself tossed out the invite to this forum. Wow. And that setlist! Yowza! Awesome. Maybe they'll pull out Bird Dream later on the tour and let Kim sing it. Allison? Boom Chicka Boom? Excellent.
Looks like a very fun show!
