You are!
I didn't understand their last sentence: "Frank Black returned the following year with The Seus EP, which preceded the mini-album SVN FNGRS, a set of songs inspired by the Irish legend of Cúchulainn." |

Really happy about this show, of course, but I am no fan of seeing rock shows at all-seater venues.
I completely understand where you're coming from, mosleyk, but I hate having to sit down to watch a show like this one.
Ah, well. It's still going to kick ass. |

I was struck by his Nirvana insight. A Pulitzer prize is surely forthcoming. |

Is that Examiner 'review' meant to be a joke? If not, it's extraordinarily bitter! |

Bitter is an understatement. I guess every Examiner review that involves forking over cash to see a musician perform results in the same drivel?
I do like a comment that someone has posted beneath the article now:
"I agree completely. My uplifted spirits after the show are a testament to Mr. Francis' failures as a performer. Not a single song about AIDS! What kind of concert is that? I couldn't wait to get home, watch "Leaving Las Vegas" and curl up in bed with Elie Weisel's 'Night.'" |

I was lucky enough to have attended. FBF was in excellent form. I remember a few things that may (but probably won't) be interesting.
J. Wong warmed-up for six songs or so. He was good - kind-of depressing, but good.
FBF played "Los Angeles" first. Afterward he said he doesn't know what the song is really about, and that he had a meeting with record people and needed material immediately and the result was "Los Angeles". He said a few things about the TV show, Perry Mason, as a source for the "las angeleese" mispronunciation.
A couple of songs into the show, a bottle of red wine was brought out with a large wine glass on a small table. He poured his own and partook throughout the show. Someone put a cup of beer on the stage. A stage hand placed it on the table. When FBF spotted the beer he didn't drink it, but offered it to someone in the audience. He was careful to check ID before he let the beer go. A few songs before the end of the show the stage hand tried to remove the table, wine and glass. FBF wasn't done and took the partially full glass from the stage hand, spilling wine on the assistant's arm. He finished the glass and let the wine go. He explained to the audience that the stage hand was "just doing his job".
He was dramatically tapping his foot to keep time - and explained that this was because he missed his usual drummer. He was having problems speeding up and slowing down.
Before playing "The Holiday Song" he said that the inspiration was from a pre-supermodel era model. He gabbed with the audience and eventually remembered the name of the early supermodel, but I didn't catch it (sorry).
He emphasized singing the etherial V-E-L-O-U, R-I-A during "Veloria". He gabbed afterward that he there were more "Kim Deal" parts coming later in the show. Someone in the audience yelled "KIM DEAL ROCKS"! FBF replied, "Yes, Kim does rock".
He introduced Duane Jarvis before "Sing for Joy": a spot light illuminated an empty part of the stage. FBF said the last time he saw D. Jarvis they played that song together.
During one of the Bluefinger songs, I think it was "Angels come to comfort you", he sang lyrics that I hadn't heard before - I think they're new. He did a few other small improvisations that I wasn't expecting.
He gabbed about focusing on a Elliot Smith song during psychotherapy, and was "so fucking pissed off" when Smith died that it ruined the music for him for some time. But recently he's made peace with it - as if Elliot had reached down and touched him on the shoulder. I wish I knew what song it was.
He ended by thanking everyone for "listening to my show". He set his guitar down, wiped the sweat off his head, bowed low, bowed low again, and left the stage.
Damn he's cool.
There were other little things that struck me during and after the show. When they come to me I'll try to remember to post them.
It was an inspiring show, and I feel priviledged to have seen it.
Updates
He said that "Lolita" was inspired by Herman Brood's daughter. He imagined Brood being escorted by angels and looking over his shoulder to shout advice to his daughter.
"Goodbye Lorraine" has something to do with his leaving therapy and his therapist.

Edie Sedgwick is the "supermodel" he was talking about before "The Holiday Song."
