Celebrate Nave Gallery's Fifth Anniversay. Tribue Show
Being Held at PA's Lounge
On May 16, local bands come together to celebrate the Nave Gallery's fifth
anniversary with a special tribute show at PA's Lounge featuring the music
of Pixies lead singer and songwriter, Frank Black.
Performing on two stages at the Union Square music venue, musicians
participating in the tribute night include The Big Disappointments,
Doomstar!, Tony The Bookie Orchestra, Choo Choo La Rouge, Wrong
Reasons, Rococo La Boy, Audrey Ryan and Stephen Brodsky, Thom from
Bon Savants, Ryan Lee Crosby, Vanessa Hayes, and Caitlin Frame. The
songs cover a wide range of Frank Black's back catalogue, ranging from the
Pixies to his solo efforts. The show begins at 8:00 pm and the cover charge

The Nave's fifth anniversary celebration kicks off in May with the opening of
'Alter-Ego, Images Made with Toy Cameras and Alternative Photographic Processes.' This exhibit features the images of more than 30 local and national artists working with film. A quirky, personal, and somewhat combative rejection to the digital camera craze sweeping society, this creative grouping represents the independent spirit and talent of the artists attracted to the Nave. This anniversary exhibition will remain on display until May 21, 2009 and represents the 36th exhibition since the Nave opened at the Clarendon Hill Presbyterian Church May 15, 2004.
Since its debut in 2004, the Gallery has showcased more 400 artists from across the globe, including 6 countries.
Additionally, the Nave hosts a variety of alternative music performers, many of whom are recorded and posted online at Jamendo, the free Internet music platform and community.
"The Nave's first five years have been fantastic," said Susan Berstler, ARTSomerville Director. "We have been fortunate to have opportunities to feature the talents of our local artists and musicians, and our participation in yearly events such as ArtBeat, ArtsUnion, and Somerville Open Studios have helped the Nave gain a reputation for being a place that inspires and encourages creativity."
Boloco and Cheryl Ann's Bakery of Brookline, MA, are the sponsors for the music tribute event.
The Nave Gallery, located in Teele Square, Somerville, MA, is a collaborative effort between ARTSomerville and the Clarendon Hill Presbyterian Church. Solely operated by volunteers, the Nave Gallery provides exhibition space for both local and regional artists. Area musicians are regularly featured and the Gallery provides a great opportunity for visitors to purchase affordably priced original art. The Nave Gallery participates every summer in Davis Square's ArtBeat celebration; sponsors Project Mum, an open-air summer dance party under the McGrath Highway in Somerville, MA; and has sponsored music festivals in collaboration with the Somerville Open Studios. i saw "frank" and "somerville" and got a little too excited for a second
still, cool that there are so many bands participating in this
even if i'm sure the covers will range 90% pixies/10% headache and los angeles

portly prince of indie
rock, Frank Black. The
Big Disappointments,

Thom from the Bon
Savants, Doomstar, Audrey Ryan and Stephen Brodsky, Tony the Bookie
Orchestra and others are expected. And because this isn’t any regular ol’ Pixies
tribute night, we should hear Black’s solo hits “Headache” and “Los Angeles”
without having to, um, Deal with Kim and the rest of the pixilated gang.
