wow SkateAlex, thanks for the info. That artwork looks cool and I hate to say this but I am actually getting my hopes up (again) that there might be some new material. |

If that is the case, I don't see why that would be exciting......... We already got plenty of live discs from the reunion shows!
Maybe I shouldn't jump to conclusions, but it seems like something the Pixies would do back in the day- to throw everyone off by saying no to a new album, then surprising everyone and creating a lot of hype! We will find out tomorrow------............
Frank has said that they wouldn't tour again without new material- they don't want to be a circus band. new album= new tour |

The tour live discs approach has already been done, right? Fooling the world would involve releasing something entirely new with no word of doing so in advance of the release. Releasing tour live discs yet again, I hate to say it, would be more a case of fooling no one at this stage. This is not to say that fans wouldn't enjoy this, but it will just feed the "what if" fire. |

this is too maddening of a boggle. I'm going to just exile myself from the site for 24 hours and hope concrete news develops. I'm too tempted to just hit 'update' on this thread every 10 minutes. Hopefully there'll be brilliant news when I return

here's the link to the A+R website.

NEW PIXIES ALBUM ENTITLED 'MINOTAUR'
PRODUCED BY STEVE ALBINI
PRE-ORDER JUNE 15TH
"minotaur" sounds like a possible continuation of the the themes on svn fngrs....half man, greek mythology....the minotaur was eventually killed by theseus.....

if this is a joke it would be pretty funny....

Seems that it's just a reissue of the original albums. No word on whether they're remastered... but certianly won't be available seperately. Expensive Vaughan Oliver artwork attached.
Very pricey too.

I'm glad I found out 'the box set only news' before I read all of this thread, as I'd be very pissed off and feel as stupid and disappointed as 100% of my friends on here will feel too :-(

If I buy this, it'll be the fourth copy of Bossanova I've purchased.
I don't think so....

They removed the video which had Vaughan Oliver discussing working on the artwork for the box set. They also stated that there will be no remastering. It does include a DVD of Brixton 1992 but i think most of us have that by now. And then there is the price.......$250 for the regular version and $450 for a deluxe version with vinyl and some extra artwork in a hardbound book, all in a clamshell case. I live in the UK so with the exchange rate as it is i think i will have to give both versions a miss, just too damn expensive for what it is. I also heard people saying that the company who distributes the box sets charge loads for postage costs and that the box sets can turn up badly damaged. Still better than fucking up the legacy with a new album! |

Money, money, money : That's what the Pixies are only interested in right now. BF has said a few month ago that there will be no tour if there is no mew material...well, he changes his mind. My favorite band of all time is becomming a relly pathetic band. |

Big Pixies Announcement???? There's nothing remotely big about announcing a box set. What makes it all the more bitter is that it seemingly came from the horses mouth (though im sure they have someone who takes care of their facebook site). Regardless of who is responsible for the facebook site it could have been handled a lot better, all that has been accomplished is pissing a lot of eager excited fans off at the thought of new material. Why not just announce the box set instead of announcing a big announcement??? Now I know how Blossom Goodchilds followers felt!! |

I sense a bit of delight is taken in punishing people unwilling to let go of their fixation on Pixies.

so if getting new artwork for albums we already have, and a dvd which has been widely bootlegged for years obvioulsy doesn't appeal to pixies fans.... do they really think non fans or just casual fans will pay over $100 for it? they're not even remastered or anything. |

Regarding the DVD...Wouldn't it look really pathetic considering it was originally filmed in 1991 by some Japanese TV? Why even bother releasing it in BR format. Also, wouldn't it have also been just plan old stereo-so would they even be able to make it sound decent in multichannel? |
