I firmly believe that the big record companies and big broadcasters, who must be in collusion, have an interest in formulaic music, and seek to actively ignore the music of the talented and artistic.
They can't sell records because their contempt for the public has produced a catalogue with no life span. Jazz record collections tend toward vast and complete, yet record companies were closing back catalogues and dismissing artists, especially instrumentalists.
What's that Fight Club song, what was the song in Stranger Than Fiction, what's the Itunes commercial? Don't give that dog a bone Sony.
Simply, why would anyone pay for crap? |

Yeah it's a shame the record companies really think this is going to work. It's a waste of everyone's time and money.

Neil Young deliberately recorded a couple of crap records because he couldn't get out of a recording contract during the eighties. I think they might be Old Ways and Landing On Water.

Well in this case, it will end up being a waste of her time and most definitely her money. I guess she shouldn't have pushed her luck. Hindsight eh?
"Music fan fined £109,000 for file sharing
American woman hit with fine after sharing MP3s online 50 minutes ago An American woman has been fined £109,000 for making 1,702 music files available to share online from her home computer.
Jammie Thomas, 32, from Minnesota, had contested the charges, which led to the large fine being accumulated. Normally law-suits against file sharers end with a fine of a few thousand pounds.
It is likely that the fine, which will be distributed among various record companies, will mean that around a quarter of Thomas' income for the rest of her life will go towards paying it off.
Richard Gabriel, the prosecuting lawyer, said, "This does send a message, I hope, that downloading and distributing our recordings is not OK."
Around 26,000 illegal downloaders and file-sharers have been sued by record companies worldwide so far."

So basically, the 6 record labels spent massive amounts for legal fees, in order to recieve a judgement awarding them around $9,500 each. What a deal....

What are you talking about? Lawyers got richer, and that's the whole point of the Western legal system, isn't it?

Yeah, and despite my usual flippant tone, I really do think lawsuits like that are often for the benefit of the lawyers and no one else. Sort of like the suits against tobacco companies.
