NME.COM.

Led Zeppelin are definitely reforming says Robert Plant

'We got a band meeting this afternoon' admits singer

05.Sep.07 12:16pm

Led Zeppelin
frontman Robert Plant has confirmed that the legendary rock band will be reuniting later this year.

A reunion has been strongly rumoured for the last week or so and today (September 5) the singer confirmed it's definitely on.

A fan who met Plant in London today contacted NME.COM explaining that the singer said he was on his way to meet bandmates Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones.

"How did you find out about this?" asked Plant when asked about the prospects of a reunion show by the autograph hunter. "Well we've got a band meeting about it this afternoon about it. There's not a lot to work out as it's only going to be one-off gig."

NME.COM has also learned from a music industry source that the show, possibly to take place in November at the 02 in London, will be a charity gig organised by promoter Harvey Goldsmith.

What do you think about the band getting back together? Have your say on MyNME below and the best comments will appear throughout the day, so keep checking.

In the meantime read NME.COM's brief history of Led Zeppelin.

It looks like I was 3 the last time they were together. They are one of the bands I would put in the Pixies league. Good to hear they are getting back together.

They last played together in 1988, but Plant and Page played together 1994.

I saw them in '95. It'd be nice to see them with JPJ, though.

I still enjoy LZ. Even their weakest albums kick ass.

Of course people will rightly wonder whether LZ still has it after all these years, but I have to say that the 1999 double disc "Live at the Greek" by “Jimmy Page & the Black Crowes” kicks serious ass. It's really an amazing document of an authentic connection between Page and the southern rock band. I'm not a huge Crowes fan but then I don't dislike them either. Apparently the Crowes started life as something of a LZ cover band, and they were really serious about it. They worshipped LZ, and reportedly jumped at the chance to collaborate with Page. Most of the material here consists of LZ covers presented with the energy one would have expected from LZ in their heyday. What amazes me is how, in 1999, they take a track like "Whole Lotta Love" and make it sound like it's still 1969, and pull it off with shocking freshness. Chris Robinson captures Plantesque vocals about as well as it could be done, in my opinion. Page is clearly loving it and never sounded better, and his mesh with the Crowes’ two guitarists is seamless. I’m not a guy who goes around recommending albums that much, but people who miss classic LZ will enjoy this reinvention of the band. It is, rather surprisingly, the real deal.

I realize 1999 was eight years ago, and Page has definitely not lived the most healthful life, synaptically speaking (didn’t he almost die a few years back?), so he’s gotta be showing the effects of a life of self-abuse, but I’m more than willing to give them the benefit of the doubt, especially when it comes to covering their own seminal material.

A little while ago I heard of the writer Aleister Crowley on VHI, one of Zeppelin's influences, interesting guy.

Page and Plant also recorded together in 1998 with ‘Walking into Clarksdale’ and toured the same year.

I’ve got a video of them playing at an Amnesty International concert in Paris in 1998 together with Peter Gabriel, Tracy Chapman and Radiohead where, from memory, they played ‘Since I’ve Been Loving You’, ‘Gallows Pole’ and closed with an amazing version of ‘Rock and Roll’.

recently an amazing led zep show from 1973 has turned up on the trading sites.
i downloaded a copy from dime here:
http://www.dimeadozen.org/torrents-details.php?id=158255
and it is phenomenal.

here's black dog for anyone interested: http://www.sendspace.com/file/dm1u5u

they apparently looked at releasing it officially but decided against it.
but now it's out there...

don't have any real feelings about led zep reuniting. but i like how they're comtinuing the legacy with the drummer.
very nice.

I think Zep might be the most overrated band in music history.

But i'm pretty much alone in that belief.

So I get to be the first to mention that without John Bonham it's not really a reunion?

I could probably burn a disc full of Zep, certainly not my favorite act, but they did some good stuff. A lot of it sounds pretty dated these days though....

what would you call it then?
it's not as tho they've excluded him from the new line up?
i don't really care either way, but i think i'd class it as a reunion seeing as all surviving members are involved and it's *almost* all of them.....

one off charity show? yeah right, they need to get together rehearse etcetera, they are going to want a police style tour to reap the benefits. $450 for floor seats at those police shows remember? ya don't think jimmy and robert and john paul noticed this. i guess john bonham kid will be the drummer?

I guess so. I mean even if you don't like their music -which is something that I can understand- you have to recognize they've put out some of the most classic albums of all ages since the creation of men -and I'm sure god himself would agree with that by banging his head in rythm to the Black Dog intro.

And they were huge on stage.

i saw them in tampa florida they played three songs then the storm of the century hit, the band never came back on in couple hours a riot broke out, i was a 15 at the time, my friends parents dropped us off there so we had nowhere to go for a few hours we just went up to the top of the stadium and watched all hell break loose, i will never forget it, they said we could mail our ticket stubbs in for refund but i still have mine. hope they tour and come back to florida.
and yes jason is drumming in dads place.
now if minor threat and the misfits can reunite that would just about cover it.

Produced by Albini, of course. Haven't actually heard it.
