Unfortunately, the Song Oracle seems confined to the archives.

I don't have much to say other than this song is still kicking some serious backside after all these years and i just needed a thread to proclaim it's thirteen year old awesomeness.

That's all.

Amen!

"... that nobody owns the pleasure of tones that belong to a guy with no ear".
I've always identified with that line.

naked? wou ouh!

Thanks again Joey for those great videos!

about Freedom Rock:

"They tried to give me advice
Down at the record shop
I said sit down boys
This may come as a shock
What's all I listen to
It's all freedom rock"

I've always identified with these lines.

I always loved the slow part of the song: it's pure Frank genius!

A classic among the classics IMO.

He's in North America in two weeks time, isn't he, kathryn? Oh no, wait a minute. My bad. He'll be in London screaming his head off while I watch on in fear and awe.

Freedom Rock is sounding great live, but I'm missing that killer G chord during the calm part.

bring back the G!

You fucker.

Everything about this tour kicks ass not kicked as hard since early Catholics era (see, I'm taking the thread to Freedom Rock-ish) --- his new band members sound cool in that blackolero interview jedi posted, that mohawk in the video just slays me, the reviews are righteous...it's such a good time to be a Frank fan.

Oh my Christ, those YOUTUBE's are fucking great! Hearing about Frank sans guitar, I must admit, had me a bit worried and questioning...but those fears are now history! Why the fuck has he never done this before?! Fucking amazing!

I absolutely cannot get this song out of my head, fbc. Especially after hearing it live today on the webcast.

And the funny thing is, I have no clue what the words are to the line that keeps going through my head. I keep singing it: "How can you feeeeee-male? How can you feeeeee-male?" That makes no sense at all, so I know it's wrong, but that's what I hear. I could look it up on the discopedia, but that wouldn't be as much fun as singing it wrong.

Please pardon me, for these my wrongs.

nice revival of the Song Oracle fbc! i really miss her.

nothing in the discopedia on this one. any other insights/comments/interpretations on the lyrics? i think i read somewhere where frank was making comments about snobby record store employees.

My name is Chip
And I'm different
I don't conform
I wear a different uniform

I'm out of the blue
And so you are, too
Let me sing about one thing that's clear
That nobody owns
The pleasure of tones
That belongs to a guy with no ear

They tried to give me advice
Down at the record shop
I said sit down boys
This may come as a shock
What's all I listen to
It's all freedom rock

How can you free me (x4)
When I'm free?
I am free

My name is Chip
And I'm different
I don't conform
I wear a different uniform

I'm out of the blue
And so you are, too
Let me sing about one thing that's clear

That nobody owns
The pleasure of tones
That belongs to a guy with no ear

fbc, you have a way of bringing songs to life for me -- and pointing out things I'd only ever noticed subconsciously. Now I'm obsessed with that G note (I don't think it's a chord). I woke up with this song in my head and just had to figure out what you've been talking about for the last few days -- "Play the G! Play the G! Play the G!" I listened to the album version a couple times and figured out that it's that keyboard part -- the downbeat on 2 and 4 during every other measure of the bass part in the middle of the song. It's very powerful when you listen to it. And you're right that it's seriously missing live. So I took my laptop to my piano, played the YouTube vid from Toulouse, and added the G manually. That was a very satisfying exercise.

Please pardon me, for these my wrongs.

Yeah, the album version and some live shows use the keys for G, but in my ears and through my speakers it's distortion all the way. You have to listen to the Palo Alto version. Do you have it? Can you still download and listen?

Seeing this song performed live, for the first time, in my hometown, is one of my absolute best Frank memories.

it took me that long to listen to the track. i wanted to make sure it wouldn't rock you too hard, you know, seeing that you like the softer side of Frank.

if you think you're ready for another, how about Ten Percenter? another thread, maybe.

Ok, I'm going to give Ten Percenter a shot. But my other huge obsession right now is Two Reelers. I really want your help with the counting in the middle of the song. During the breakdown right before 1:20, are there two or three time signatures happening at once?

Please pardon me, for these my wrongs.
