Only one guitarist, or did CT/BF/FB/BF pick up one as well?

Frank did not play guitar, he did concentrate on singing. It was a really great show!

More :
The show started at about 9.05 It ended at about 10.15
The club is a rather small one, sound quality was good from my point of view. The guitar player was looking very serious and sometimes you could ask yourself if he was enjoying the show. The drummer was smiling quite often he was pretty good. Base player had this strange hear cut and I found he was looking cool. Frank did not talk too much. At one point he did name the other musicians, I only remember the base player's name, Dean ?
It was my 11th FB show, so it was a bit strange to see frank singing only and not playing the guitar. But it did not "damage" the songs. I found that the songs from Bluefinger were sounding very close to the leaked album versions. Obviously some guys in the crowd had already heard them before the show.
To complete the setlist, Bluefinger songs that I remember having been played: captain pasty threshold apprehension lolita tight black rubber your mouth into mine you can't break a heart and have it (my favorite)

Hey Pierre, I couldn't find you. Where were you? We were about third row, right in front of Frank. I thought I saw you on the right but I couldn't move.
Reviewing will take a while, and I have some work to do. Let's start with the setlist (unordered):
(first song) The Black Rider Old Black Dawning Tight Black Rubber Los Angeles Thalassocracy Freedom Rock Massif Centrale Ten Percenter Captain Pasty Your Mouth Into Mine Lolita Robert Onion Manitoba Threshold Apprehension You Cant' Break a Heart & Have It California Bound The Rockafeller Skank (encore) Remake/Remodel
If I'm not forgetting any that makes 18 songs in about 1h10'. Seriously... that was awesome. You could consider this as some kind of rehearsal, and they did quite a few mistakes, but to have Frank 2ft from you holding his mike (he didn't play guitar) and yelling his guts out was something. And he did yell, though he never hit high notes, dunno if it was to spare his voices or if he was hoarse. Highlights to me were Manitoba (it sounds excellent with a single guitar, darwin), You Can't Break A Heart (not the biggest fan of the studio version but it slayed me live), Thalassocracy, and once more after all these years, Los Angeles.
I took a bunch of pics, most of which are blurry. I'll see if I can save a few tonight. I took 2 videos during Pasty and Your Mouth but the sound is crappy. Anyway there were lots of photographs, so we should have some good pics. There was a guy with a camera on the front row (I think I know who he is) who was literally 1 ft away from Frank's face during the whole gig. Stunning.
What else... Had a beer with remig and his friend. I learned about remig's job, apparently he's a chef at a nuclear plant or something. It wasn't clear. Uh... French FB fans have nice booties. I applaud the idea of going to the gig in white mini shorts. Sorry, I ran out of batteries.

I thought the guitarist looked pretty happy to be there, even if he didn't smile. He had a couple of nice antics which made me think of Rich Gilbert, though less crazy. Frank introduced him as "Charles Normal", the drummer as "Hippy So-So" (at least that's what I heard) and the bassist as "Ding". The drummer wore diving goggles and the same kind of hat Scott used to wear, and the bassist really has a cool mohawk. Everyone dressed in black.

These reveiews have been great. They're very much appreciated. I'm seeing Frank at the Shepherd's show and now the anticipation is really growing so thanks for that. I still can't get used to the idea that he doesn't play guitar at these shows, I love his playing. But so far all the comments have been positive about that which gives me confidence. Really wish I was there. The best Pixies gig I ever went to was at Bataclan near Oberkampf. Ahh, memories. And once again thanks for posting in English.

Pixies played at the Bataclan? When was that? That's where I saw the Catholics for the last time.
I've been reading the Salem thread. The setlist was indeed very close, with All My Ghosts removed and Thalasso, Robert Onion and Your Mouth added. The stage at Lefty's was huge compared to yesterday... Paris Paris is really small. I guess there were about 200 people and the place was packed.

Before the show someone (i didn't see) tuned an acoustic guitar backstage. I hoped Frank would play some songs from FM/RM/honeycomb/Christmass before the band joined. We've never heard them live here in Europe.

Yes, thanks to everyone reporting back to us. Now, after reading all your posts and the setlist, I have a pretty good idea what to expect tonight in Hamburg.
Did any of you had any trouble getting in? |

Why did you read the reviews, kella? It'll spoil the fun!
j/k. There's a lot we haven't told yet. Eventually the entrance was fairly easy, I imagine everyone who was on the guestlist could come in.

Well, I'm not strong enough to resist a temptation such as this thread, Denis. And it's just more fun this way.

I was there. awsome show. I love his new band, really punk (espcially the bass player) and i like the way charles moves on stage now that he has no more guitare to deal with. There were a lot of people who took pictures. I would love to see some of them. The guitarist played the solo part in los angeles and the rythm part also. And it was very fun to hear frank covering Rockafeller skank with his scremaing voice. If someone has recorded this version.......

Summer '89. Man I was completely broke, living on baguttes/confiture, saved all my little centimes, working at McDo. I'd seen them a couple of times on the Doolittle tour in London already but the Bataclan show was otherworldly.

Love the videos. "Los Angeles" sounded especially good with one guitar player.
A Christmass-type release from the summer '07 tour would be very welcome in this house. |

Tip for floop: The reason the audio is so crappy is you failed to follow rule No. 1 of filming: Get within 7,000 miles of your subject.

As long as some of us believe floop filmed the videos, you should respect our right to hold that belief. We'll have to agree to disagree. |
