Because it sums up just about all the unique styles FB has, in more subtle ways. It is well-balanced, unified around a common thread.

More importantly, IT ROCKS.

i just don't like the songs - they are almost annoying to me. they are too linear and predictable. they are all built around one riff or chord sequence. they song shave no lows or highs. no dynamics, no breaks, no surprises, no hooks.
i really miss good (e.g. catholics, pixies) and creative (e.g. lyle workman, joey santiago) co-musicians.
i don't think it rocks. it has a very raw punk sound and feel which i don't like at all. in particular the repetetive character of the songs.
i don't like his high-pitched singing on these tracks.

as i once wrote, i really don't understand they comparisions with TOTY or pixies. these songs had turns, and hooks, and so many surprises.
the bluefinger songs are just verse-riff - chorus-melody (mostly a simple one). both the verse and chorus are always very, very repetitive. if you have heard the first 15 seconds of most bluefinger songs, you know the rest of it.

but as a said, thats just me (but i'm a bit surprised, that i'm the only one).

I agree with the analysis of two reelers, but not the conclusion.

I like this batch of songs but do not think they are similar in tone to anything he's done before. The lack of lead guitar is the most obvious point, but two reelers brings some good points about the structure and dynamics. However, it doesn't get boring for me. It sounds like an old unfashionable punk record, which I mean in a VERY good way. Almost has the feel of having been knocked off in a weekend or something.

Nothing is ever something.

This doesn't seem to be a thread about why you like the album. Why not start one about why you don't like it?

I like it for precisely the opposite reasons of two reelers. I find it deep and interesting, and find something new to discover on every repeat listen. There are hooks, turns, and surprises. I don't know what album two reelers heard, but I don't think it's Bluefinger. Maybe he only listened to the first 15 seconds of the songs...

Agree totally with this. All the qualities two reelers doesn't hear on Bluefinger are totally there for me. I love it because it grabbed me instantly and still wont let go two months on. Last time that happened was TOTY.

I love it because it's nearly the complete opposite of the record that appeared before it, and that it proves yet again that Frank can play anything that he chooses to.

Because the Brood concept is fucking genius. Because the music is like a drug. And because of Frank's voice, which is always genius and like a drug.

Please pardon me, for these my wrongs.

I don't get this. Angels is neither linear nor predictable. Discothèque has a really neat chorus (I can't describe it well in musical terms). Threshold is dynamics-heavy. Mouth is linear, sure, but quirky. Pilot has a strong melodic hook...

Because it's new.
And because Your Mouth Into Mine and Bluefinger are the two best songs Frank has done in a long time. Besides She's My Way. And Dead Man's Curve, and Fast Man, and Seven Days, and Elijah, and Selkie Bride.

Well, they're really good songs, anyway.

Still hooked on cellophane...

this is why it's good:

it's like daniel johnston. the songs are there. they're good. there are even instruments in there. sure, the songs could have been done up with bells and kazoos, but here's the song as written, without any idea of the mode of outlet.
so THAT'S how we hear pixies in one. why we hear teenager-era all over another. that's why we're sure it's an FMRM outtake. there are even cult of RAY references! CULT OF RAY! the last time we heard cult of ray was pistolero. MAYBE.

"i love this part!...

...yay! we did it!"

"your mouth into mine" seriously could have been on TOTY.
"discotheque 36" seriously could have been the best song on FMRM (and i LOVE FMRM).
"captain pasty" could have been a b-side to "i think i'm starting to lose it." (and yes, i know it wasn't a single).
"lolita" is the beautiful twin to "she's my way."
"bluefinger" easily could have been on Devil's Workshop. easily.
what's not to like?

Now that I have heard Bluefinger, I can comment on the album. It is everything I anticipated. IMO, he combines all the energy from earlier stuff to make this cd. I love it. It's like having a greatest hits album and the excitement of discovering his music all in one. and as Jose Jones said before..."What's not to like?"

I love this album. I cannot wait to buy it. I have physically purchased damn near everything this man has done, and every single thing amazes me. This album just flat out rocks. Seriously. Threshold Apprehension is incredible. I love that he screams more. But I love that he is not just flat-out overdoing it on the album. In no way does this remind me of the Pixies. Its a Frank Black album through and through. There will never be another Pixies album. I love this record though. Damn, its good!

I've heard a lot of noise, so I'm going to the stereo store, to get a white noise maker and turn it up to ten.

Anybody remembers Bam Thwok (or something like that)? I'm glad there won't be another Pixies album. I want a Breeders album instead.

I found a distraction from Bluefinger till the official release comes out.

Has anyone else heard The Fratellis? I think I'm the last one to succumb. I was avoiding it 'cause it thought was some over hyped crap like Franz Ferdinand. Well I ended up liking Franz Ferdinand.

I grabbed it because they are opening for the Police, and I thought I'd check them out for shits and giggles. Now I'm addicted. It's like Franz meets Adam Ant. Am I an ass for liking it? I think They're pretty good.
