Just a note to the "virgins":
I got the Treshold Apprehension single from iTunes and also have the leaked version.
It's definitely been remixed (not just edited to be shorter for radio). The bass is less heavy and it's been tightened up a bit. There are some other subtle changes as well, but mainly it doesn't sound quite as raw, which is what I think most people liked about Bluefinger.
Thought I'd mention this because to me, I like the leaked version much better and even if you want to go in "blind" you might want to try to get ahold of the leaked version just in case it becomes harder to get in the future since it appears that it might be quite a bit different.

I agree with Jeffrey that I prefer the leaked version. But for some reason listening on my computer speakers the ITunes Single just rocks a lot more. As coastline pointed out to me the ITunes version is about a minute shorter. But who's counting the score? I love this version too!

Um, uh... The Cooking Vinyl site just wants A password, not necessarily your e-mail address password. When you register, you choose a password. Any... password... you... want.
It's not a big deal. I don't know why they want you to register, but I don't think Cooking Vinyl puts you on a mailing list or anything. Or, if they do, my spam filter blocks it out.

Ach Jefrey, because of this here post I have finally, prematurely (!), lost my bluefinger virginity.
I had made a virginity pledge until our unification on the release day. „True love waits“, I thought.
But then temptation came my way, disguised as your different versions argument. To „get ahold of the leaked version just in case it becomes harder to get in the future“ seemed to be the logical thing to do. And with a little help of a freund, I got me a copy of bluefinger.
But of course once had it sitting on my computer there was no holding back. Now, I am just like anybody else here.

I have heard only three songs (Pasty, Threshold, Mouth) and that's enough for me until release day. |

Sorry for the peer pressure. You should have buried it in a time capsule or something. I'm taking a break from it till release day so it'll be "New and improved and minty fresh."

The tough choice for me was waiting for this Salem show to hear any new songs LIVE for the first time -- any he plays in Salem, I mean -- versus trying to find any of the songs online before the show. But I couldn't wait, I went out to youtube and looked around and found a few of the new songs up there. Still can't wait to hear whatever he decides to play live, of course. |

Yes. I think I might just get the leaked version myself. Even without your analysis, the single version's been ever-tempting me to get my hands on bluefinger. |

I'm really anxious to hear that new T A, shorter with a thiner sound it's exatly what I would say the Leaked version needed. Frank used to make short beatifull songs like "Alison" or "Pong". Did he loose the interest? The Buddy Holly explaination (to EDF about songs duration) was very true! "I love Rock'n'Roll" and a few others could be much better as two minutes song. Short and angry! |

I've always been struck by how short so many of the songs on Show Me Your Tears are. Nothing is longer than five minutes, only two are over four minutes, and FIVE are less than three minutes.
I actually like hearing new Frank songs for the first time live. A lot of bands can lose you when they play stuff you've never heard. I don't know why (don't know if it's my fault or their's). But Frank and the musicians he works with (and I'm mostly thinking of the Catholics) have always pulled it off and made the new stuff totally engaging to me. Seeing Frank & the C's in early 2003, my favorite parts of the set -- the moments that I thought about the most after the show was over -- were the then-unreleased Show Me Your Tears songs. Same in early 1999, when I heard a load of Pistolero songs before that album came out. So me (as someone who hasn't heard the new album yet), I would love to hear the Bluefinger songs for the first time at a live show.
I'm gonna freakin' LOVE having some new Frank music on vinyl when this single shows up. |

Well buy it then, damn! It's been released....
It's the longest song on Bluefinger by far. Maybe it could have been shorter, but the "radio" edits are pretty obvious and weird if you've heard the original. It's like hearing the 3 minute version of "Light My Fire" - it's pretty weird having whole segments simply chpped out.
But there's no way they could get a 5+ minute song played on the radio these days.
I would expect the album version the be the same length, since they are calling this the "Radio Edit". You're going to have to buy the single Grotesque if you wanted it shorter.

Hi Grotesque,
I'm going to amend my last post - I took a week off from listening to Bluefinger and listened to the TA radio edit again, to make it kind of fresh.
I think I definitely like the new mix better, but the ending doesn't flow well, I don't think.
So. I think the new, tighter mix is going to benefit the album, but I don't like the edit of the radio edit. I think even listening to it "blind" it feels like something's missing.
Anyone who's only heard the single version care to comment? Do you like it? Does the ending feel weird? On the album version the ending is drawn out for about a minute longer.

Those were the days, my friend. Hearing PISTOLERO songs live just after the release of FB&C's was beyond excitement. The first time I heard I SWITCHED YOU was live about 5 months before PISTOLERO came out, and it was crazy. Last year was pretty cool hearing GYANESHWAR live before it was released.

The original song is already pretty strange (have you noticed the 2 parts where he sings "be my suicide" are totally diferent, just like the choruses of Captain Pasty, you cant tell what's going to happend). I would buy it but I live in a country where it is not recomended to make internet transactions in the cyber cafes, and I dont have the net at home. I'll wait a few monthes to buy the vynil in a French store. I listened to Bluefinger yesterday after a few weeks of break. It's really a great album, the songs are all good. Lolita and Mouth finaly reached the level of the catchy tunes, once they really entered my brain. |
