I'm rather surprised this hasn't come up yet... anyone seen Simon Pegg's latest? Thoguhts? I quite enjoyed it, actually. Not amazing, but that said the end had me laughing pretty much consistently. I thought for sure Tre would have something to say.
Incidentally, Tre, I just finished reading Cell (Stephen King). I'm not exactly a follower of his, in fact, it was only the second book I've read from him, but I couldn't help but think you'd really enjoy it. Expertly done twist on the zombie theme, I really enjoyed it. My first zombie novel. :)

I loved it, preferred it to Shaun Of The Dead in fact. I just wonder whether some of the humour would translate - some of it you would only understand if you were familiar with British tv.

Can you give me some examples? I did watch Spaced and The Office and episodes of Coupling before I decided I wasn't a big fan, so maybe I got it or maybe not. Either way, yeah, the end made the movie for me.

There are references to British shows like 'Midsommer Murders' and little in jokes here and there that perhaps wouldn't be picked up on by non Brits. Still a great movie though that anyone could enjoy.
Incidently, we're now so steeped in American culture over here that I think we 'get' just about everything that's thrown at us, however parochial.

Heh heh, yeah, I know what you mean. Still, better that way than utter ignorance, which is what we face if we don't go seeking out our own 'alternative' (AKA British) media. :)
I take the silence to mean that either nobody else has heard of or seen said movie or that I've been gone so long nobody wants to open a thread I start. :)

It was very good. There was a leetle too much of that fast switching action camera nonsense that was delightful in Shaun of the Dead but overdone here. Otherwise it was blatantly awesomely awesome. Went to see it with Simone and t'other housemate when it came out. Laugh I nearly cried. I actually did nearly cry when Adam Buxton met his unfortunate demise and when it looked like you know who was one of the bad guys (trying not to spoil it for those who haven't seen it). But overall I want to see it again so it needs to come out on DVD soon.

[edit] I used to like Stephen King novels when I was about 12 but was always really disappointed with the way they finished. If this one is about a zombie though you know I'm reading it.

Watched it last night, and thought the same-but that's probably my only realy criticism, because for the most part, I thought it was great-well written, very sharp and funny, with a number of laugh-out-loud moments ("I quite fancy a little gobble after midnight!", "Cock!"). Simon Pegg to play Scotty in 'Trek'
'Hot Fuzz' star added to J.J. Abrams film

Paramount Pictures is beaming up Simon Pegg to play Scotty in J.J. Abrams' "Star Trek."
Pegg joins Eric Bana, Anton Yelchin, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana and Leonard Nimoy in the latest bigscreen incarnation of the classic TV series.
Penned by Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci, the story chronicles the early days of James T. Kirk and his fellow USS Enterprise crew members during their time at Starfleet Academy. Chris Pine has been offered the role of Kirk.
Paramount has set a November start date for the film, which will bow on Christmas Day 2008.
Abrams and Stratton Leopold are producing, while Kurtzman and Orci will exec produce alongside Bryan Burk and Damon Lindelof.
Pegg, whose recent credits include "Hot Fuzz," will star in the upcoming satire "How to Lose Friends and Alienate People."

| I thought Hot Fuzz was a brilliant and hilarious send up of the often stupendous action film genre, and while a huge horror fan actually enjoyed this one quite a bit better then Shaun of the Dead. Definitely on my will bring into my life quasi-permanently file! |
