I can hardly wait for this new album from Spoon.
Thanks to Dean for turning me into a ravenous fan.
Now I'll pull a carl;
Spoon's latest long player is finished and at this moment being put into production, duplicated in the forms of CD and vinyl. The new album Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga (named after the sound of one of the first songs written for the record, "The Ghost of You Lingers") will be released locally by the #1 label in America, Merge Records, on July 10, 2007. Release dates for other parts of the world will with any luck be known and announced soon. But for God's sake if you or someone you know or someone you've read about owns a label in Japan, please contact us. We want to go to Japan.
Here will be the contents:
Don't Make Me a Target The Ghost of You Lingers You Got Yr Cherry Bomb Don't You Evah Rhthm and Soul Eddie's Ragga The Underdog My Little Japanese Cigarette Case Finer Feelings Black Like Me
This record was mostly made at Jim's studio in Austin with Mike McCarthy and the Enos. Though we did escape to Los Angeles briefly to do some stuff with Jon Brion.
Upcoming shows: 04-13 Grinnell, IA - Harris Center (Grinnell College) 04-21 Baltimore, MD - Sonar (Main Room) 04-22 Philadelphia, PA - Starlight Ballroom 04-24 Asbury Park, NJ - Stone Pony 04-26 New Haven, CT - Toad's Place 04-27 Northampton, MA - Pearl Street 04-28 Boston, MA - Museum of Fine Arts, Boston 05-27 George, WA - Gorge Amphitheatre (Sasquatch Festival) 06-16 Manchester, TN - Bonnaroo Music Festival 07-04 Detroit, MI - Comerica CityFest
***** For the next few months Spoon will be playing a number of secret shows around the country, starting very soon indeed.

I'm not that into Spoon, I just have Gimme Fiction, but it sounds good. And the free show in Detroit sounds even better.

Oh yeah, I'm excited for this one big time. Rumour has it they're playing a festival in Calgary at the end of June with Boredoms and Lightning Bolt. So far I've only been able to find confirmation that the Boredoms will be there, but the guy who told me about it says it will be a two-day festival with Boredoms and Lightning Bolt headlining the first night, then Spoon headlining the other.

They're playing a few hours from me tomorrow in Iowa. IOWA! What the hell?! I'm just a little too broke to make the trip. For once I'm upset to be in Minneapolis.

Oh sure, let's all congratulate Dean for liking Spoon... I wonder how he ever heard about them!
Anyway, enough sour grapes, here's some new Spoon in YouTube and mp3 format. Quality is not great (it's live), but the music is.

I don't know, I feel a little weird talking about a leak when we don't even know if it is authorized by Spoon!

That would be dope. Have they ever toured together? Would save me lots of trouble seeing as I've driven to Vancouver to see them both.
Still can't find confirmation anywhere for that Calgary festival other than a Boredoms show has been announced. There's a huge gap in Spoon's public schedule right around then, but all that does is make me hungry.

I can't wait for this release. I love Gimme Fiction, I saw them last year (or was it two years ago?) and it was a great show. Any reccomendations of how to get into their catalog?

If you started with Gimme Fiction, I'd say go backwards through their catalogue. Things will get less piano/groove centric and start to sound more like the Pixies (their first album, Telephono, is essentially Spoon-does-the-Pixies. But it's good).

Hahaha, it's true. I owe Mike for most of my musical tastes. Otherwise I'd probably still be listening to classical and certainly wouldn't be here... still, thanks for the props, Bru and C.
I actually had no idea they had a new album coming, this is great news, thanks C!

Not sure if you've heard yet, Carolyn, but they're playing in Calgary on 29 June. I just bought a ticket yesterday and there were about 300 left.
