Pixies finished their Australian tour in Hobart, Tasmania on April 7 headlining the Southern Roots festival. They played a 60 minute set, songs were-
In Heaven Wave of Mutilation (UK Surf) Bone Machine Monkey Gone To Heaven U-Mass Head On Caribou No. 13 Baby Tame Hey Gouge Away Here Comes Your Man Planet of Sound Debaser Isla De Encanta Nimrod's Son Vamos Where Is My Mind? Gigantic
According to someone in the know, this was the last Pixies show. They have nothing else booked.
Whatever the significance of this show, it was another awesome performance with Frank really hollering his vocals. Joey seemed to particularly enjoy his Vamos solo too. Kim made a joking comment to the crowd that they all looked like normal people and didn't have 2 heads or anything. This was a reference to how Australians joke about people from Tassie being inbred (incestuous union?). Again, the sound quality was incredible. The Pixies crew really are top shelf pros, no other band sounds as good as these guys, especially at outdoor festivals. There was no indication from the band at all that this was their last show. No emotions or sentimentality shown on stage anyway. Yesterday's Hobart Mercury newspaper reported that the Pixies enjoyed themselves partying at a nightclub called Mobius after the show but I wasn't there.

Is it true someone hit Charles with a cup full of beer (while playing) and they refused to do an encore?

I didn't see that happen. Doubt that it's true. They played for exactly an hour which was what they were scheduled to do - from 10.30 to 11.30pm. Festival finished at 11.30pm, all the lights went off. There was probably a curfew. The set didn't have the usual encore with the band walking around thanking the crowd, instead they just went straight from Where Is My Mind to Gigantic and that was it.

Well, it was the last show of the tour. Perhaps that is what was meant. |

Somebody threw an opened water bottle at Frank hitting him in the chest and splashing water on his acoustic guitar. Idiot made me feel ashamed to be a Tasmanian, which the locals here do on a regular basis. Unbelievable. Frank seemed to take it in his stride and played on without interruption, a total pro.
Anyway, all the bands (that I saw) on the day were limited to 1 hour sets, and the festival wrapped up on time because it was in the middle of a residential area, so no chance of an encore.
Best gig I've seen since the Sex Pistols in '96. |

Do you remember the song they were playing when that happened? |

Levitated - It's a bit blurry now, Nimrod's Son maybe? I can't really remember. |
