I have many, many suggestions. Here are a few:
A really great restaurant is the Yaffa Cafe (97 St. Mark's Place) - open 24 hours, good food (especially if you're a vegetarian, but even if not, good food) and cool atmosphere. If its a nice night, ask to sit in the courtyard.
One of my favorite bars is Loki on 5th Ave in Brooklyn. Another great one is Greenwich Treehouse (Greenwich Ave between Perry and Charles) - not too crowded, not too expensive for either. The Treehouse has a projection TV that shows cartoons, movies and old Buster Keaton shorts. Plus they have free WiFi. Highly recommended.

Down on the South point of Manhattan there's these two really big cool buildings that....oh wait...those aren't there anymore. Ooops.

Hmmm, a chance to ask...
I recently bought a Jazz CD I thought was out-of-print and unavailable from The Downtown Music Gallery. Has anyone been to the actual store?
Also, I am finally going to take a holiday sometime this year before they close the border, either NY or LA and Chicago. I read somewhere about a bar where they have some of the great piano players. When I tried to find the name by looking up "Piano Bar New York" on Google I found that Piano Bar is synonymous with Pick-Up Bar. Any insight into either the name of the phenomenal bar or the bar phenomenon? |

I found a bar in NYC called Pianos during my research. I'm sure it's nothing to do with your piano players.
Twin towers? Lots of people have asked if I'm going to the site. I can't see the point. Seems a little mawkish to me.
Can someone get Mr Black to play in town next week?

McAleer's Pub on 81st and Columbus. It's right around the corner from Christopher Walken's Manhattan brownstone. (I used to stalk him, that's how I found the pub.) They have the greatest hamburgers in the country.

Essa Bagel (I think it's called) is a really good bagel shop. Not sure of location, but more than one exist.
Oh, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art is always interesting. |

My NYC recommendation is NOT to take dining advice from Brian. Remember that restaurant we wound up at?? :)
If you search, there were plenty of great suggestions from these helpful people on my visit. The thread was something like "The City of New York vs Cult of Frank" or some such nonsense.
Enjoy your trip. There is a TONNE to see. And don't expect to sleep more than a few hours a night if you really want to absorb the city that never sleeps. :)
