What did you think of "Tobacco Road," JJ?

i liked it! i WAS able to see the humor in it (i initially doubted i would). it seems to not try to "teach a lesson", but moreso like it causes the reader to put him-or-herself into the characters' shoes and allow you to better sympathize with and/or criticize them.
good stuff. i don't know if i'll read 'god's little acre' though.

The Half Blood Prince (the 6th Harry Potter) so that I might read the final one before some jerk ruins it for me. Someone already ruined the 6th. |

I'm reading this, on recommendation from kfs, who has led me wrong on books only once. It's about a paranoid schizophrenic and her journey into and out of madness, written by her and the people around her. It's disturbing but excellent.
Please pardon me, for these my wrongs. |

NO, Snape reveals himself to be a German terrorist and takes Hogwarths hostage. Then Harry dons a white vest....

one of the best books I've read this year
That's a great graphic novel! Years ago I read the first eight single issues.
So it's finished. Does it have a proper ending? |

Finished this the other night, pretty engrossing.
Also reading this at the moment, it was a Christmas prezzie from my bro and sis years ago! And I kind of finished Tolkien's The Silmarillion, just haven't gotten around to reading the notes/indexes yet! |

This is engrossing. I doubt I'll have time to finish it before the library wants it back, but I'm fascinated by it so far.
Please pardon me, for these my wrongs. |

My mom just finished 6 Messiahs by Mark Frost, who helped with Twin Peaks, and gave it to me to read.
This book is the sequel to his List of Seven, which I read years ago and liked. Both books are fictionalized storys about Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.

due to overt threadal influence, i have just recently finished THE ROAD and am 150 pages into FIERCE INVALIDS HOME FROM HOT CLIMATES.
the road was great. depressing, dark, and creepy, but great. i was particularly interested in it because mcarthy's the author of the book upon which the new coen brothers film is based. the read was also enhanced because i has reading it while on a camping trip in the boundary waters of minnesota. i was really relating to starting fires, cooking bland food, being cold, being totally alone and away from any civilization, protecting your food from theives (bears, squirrels, pine martins).
now i am really loving the tom robbins book. this is my first tom robbins experience, and i think it's a great start. i love every word of it. i can see how one could easily read this book over and over and never get tired of it!
i also recently read THE GOLDEN COMPASS (aka NORTHERN LIGHTS). holy shit, that was awesome. fucking astounding! there's is no way the movie is going to be anywhere near as good. my wife is on the third book (it's a trilogy, i've only read the first) and is hating it. i think she actually gave up on it! she said the plot is just rubbish. now i'm REALLY interested!
i've been thinking about checking out that FREE WEE MEN book.
i've also been sniffing around DUNE lately. think i might get to it sooner rather than later.

Seems like I remember someone was going to start King's The Dark Tower series a few months ago. Homer, was that you? Anyway, I'm four books into it, AND IT ROCKS. Addictive as hell.
