You beat me to it, chris! As did Brank Flack in another thread. I'm sure you won't mind if I type it up:

Pixies frontman Frank Black wails for GRAW 2

Posted Jan 30th 2007 10:15PM by James Ransom-Wiley

Frank Black is a rock icon. So when
the Pixies frontman teams up with
3volution Productions* to record an
exclusive cover of The Stooges'
"Gimme Danger" for a new Ghost
Recon Advanced Warfighter 2
trailer,
it's reason to take notice. The song
has been paired with nearly 90
seconds of GRAW 2 gameplay
footage; a different direction from
the one taken in the more stylized
Gears of War "Mad World" ad. Still, the Black laced GRAW 2 teaser is worth
a gander -- or at least a listen.

*3volution Productions, created by Fear Factory drummer Raymond
Herrera, specializes in producing audio tracks for games.

This site posts the Joystiq story too:

Frank Black Meets Tom Clancy
Legendary Pixies frontman covers The Stooges in Ghost Recon
Advanced Warfighter 2.

by IGN Music

January 30, 2007 - The
"Gimme Danger" teaser trailer
for the upcoming Ubisoft
release of Tom Clancy's
Ghost Recon Advanced
Warfighter 2 features the
music of legendary Frank
Black, best known as the
caterwauling frontman of The
Pixies.

The song utilized in the trailer
is "Gimme Danger," a
seminal classic culled from
the vaults. It was originally
written and performed by Iggy
Pop when he was a member
of the ground breaking
Michigan combo The Stooges (the band universally regarded as one of the major acts to
lay the groundwork for the Punk Rock movement of the early '70s).

Frank Black teamed up with 3volution Productions to re-record the track exclusively for
GRAW 2. Supposedly the raw energy of the track makes for a perfect match to the
equally raw intensity of the game play. It also continues to expose the growing
interaction between modern rock music and videogames.

This is very cool, but Frank needs to be in next Guitar Hero. Or at least GTAIV
I wasn't very interested in GRAW2, but i might pick it up since it's Frank affiliated

anyone think they might be able to find this track laying around anywhere? Frank captures the energy of the song really well, and I think I might like to have that track start off a mix CD.

Great song and FB covers it like no one can. Hope it ends up on a CD eventually cuz the ghost recon games are otherwise crap.

BTW it's on youtube also....

whoa...very surreal, man. The cover sounds great. FB is infiltrating the mainstream -- and with a Stooges cover!

... Euhh.... I don't want to sound pessimistic or rude, or disgracefull or even realistic, but what I heard doesn't sound very good to me... The procduction of the cover is not really arty... yes it sounds even kinda mainstream. the heavy guitars and unsubtle beat. And sorry, Frank' voice is a bit dissapointing on the "gimme stranger, little stranger" line. He can be much more low and sexy when he wants to, and the screaming part is just too much... well, i'm sorry to have this feeling but I don't like what I heard from this cover. The original is still way better... and yes we want some original Frank's songs...

Reason to not ignore Tom Clancy

RAMBLINGS
SAT 03 FEB 07

Generally, I ignore news about anything with ‘Tom Clancy’ in the title. But
on Tuesday I was wrong to, because the trailer for Tom Clancy’s Ghost
Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 is actually worth downloading.

No, the game doesn’t look to be a radical departure or anything like that,
but the soundtrack to the trailer is courtesy of Frank Black, the Pixies front
man who would surely feature in any sensible top five best people ever. It’s
him covering ‘Gimme Danger’ by Iggy & The Stooges, specifically for the
game. Which I find quite impressive.

GRAW 2 thus becomes the second game to be more interesting because of
its soundtrack, the other being Stubbs the Zombie, which featured ’60s
covers by such bands as The Raveonettes, Cake and The Flaming Lips.

GRAW 2 demo out on
Xbox Live

Ubisoft on Wednesday
announced the release of the
long awaited single player
demo for 'Tom Clancy's
Ghost Recon Advanced
Warfighter 2' ('GRAW 2'), the
follow up to the popular
squad-based action franchise.
The new playable demo gives gamers a taste of the
explosive action, new features and new graphics in
'GRAW 2's single player campaign.
In the 'GRAW 2' single-player demo, which is set during
the second mission of the game, Scott Mitchell must lead
the Ghost team in Mexico to clean a rebel camp on the
outskirts of the city of Juarez with the goal of destroying
a number of objectives to open a breach for the allied
loyalist Mexican army.
The single player demo is available now for free
download on the Xbox Live Marketplace. Along with the
demo, Ubisoft is also releasing the full "Gimme Danger"
trailer with Iggy Pop and the Stooges song, revisited by
Frank Black and 3volution Productions, exclusively for
'GRAW 2'.
'Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2' is
scheduled for release on the Xbox 360, PSP and Games
4 Windows in March 2007, with the PlayStation3 version
scheduled to release in June 2007.

Maybe all those gamers out there will be turned onto Frank Black now. And they'll check out his solo albums, starting with instant classics such as Teenager of the Year or Devil's Workshop. Before long these people --just like most other Frank Black fans-- will become avid collectors of everything he records. His music would inspire them so much that they would break their video game addiction, and they would start pursuing their dreams of being an artist, musician, firefighter, or a certified auto mechanic. Baby, that's art.

I think it would be sweet to hear Frank Black do a cover "The Long Way Home," by Tom Waits.

I'll be by the pool, playing with my guns.

Hunh. I am of two minds.

Mind #1 says: "Good for him. Dude has to make a living. Not really my business anyway."

Mind #2 says: "How strange. The cover is sort of lukewarm, and is a poor fit for the game."

The second mind is the bats**t fan in me, if you need any prompting.

If anything, I'm curious about how this arrangement came about. Did Frank's management send a feeler out that he's interested in gaming soundtracks? Is Frank a big fan of the Clancy games? Is the music director for the game a big Frank fan? Etc.

If I were to pick an artist to pair with a Clancy game, I'd find the guys who wrote the music for "Patriot Games." Ghost Recon is not really a "rock n' roll" game, is it? Maybe its the GTA phenomenon: now you've got to get rock songs into games, period? The original Stooges song would have been a better fit, but maybe more expensive. Copywright is looser for works created before '77, so ... well ... I don't know where I'm going with that. I'd have thought Iggy would have been all over getting paid for something like this.

If I were to pick a game to pair with a Frank song, I'd choose something with a space-invasion theme ("Bullet" paired with a "Half Life" game, anyone?)or something smart and mysterious. For some reason "The Longest Journey" series comes to mind. I think that one was developed in France ... so there you go.

Fbc kicked my sorry ass by discovering this first! (posted in the Gimme Danger thread in FB making Noise):

http://www.techshout.com/gaming/2007/06/ghost-recon-advanced-warfighter-2-songs-made-available-by-3volution/

3volution’s remakes of
“Gimme Danger,“ (originally
written and recorded by Iggy Pop and the Stooges) featuring Pixies’
front man and solo artist Frank Black on vocals are the first of
3volutoin’s videogame related songs to be distributed by Navarre.
Starting today, both “Gimme Danger” and “Gimme Danger nu
Grungeopolis mix” by Frank Black and 3volution will be distributed
digitally to more than 20 top outlets including Apple iTunes, Music
Match, Napster, emusic, Audio Lunchbox, Sony Connect, Jamster,
Verizon Wireless and more.

http://wii.qj.net/3volution-and-Navarre-make-exclusive-deal-to-distribute-video-game-music/pg/49/aid/85143

Navarre will distribute 3volution's video game music. For example,
today (March 6, 2007) is the commercial release of two songs from
Ubisoft's Tom Clancy's Ghost Recon Advanced Warfighter 2 (GRAW 2). Navarre will distribute
3volution's remakes of "Gimme Danger" (a song originally written and recorded by Iggy Pop and the
Stooges) to outlets like Apple iTunes, Music Match, Napster, emusic, Audio Lunchbox, Sony Connect,
Verizon Wireless, and others. (By the way, "Gimme Danger nu Grungeopolis mix" features Frank
Black, the front man of the Pixies.)

Uh, same thing here, just from the PC section of QJ.NET:
