I really thought there was a Kristen Hersh topic already, but the search I did came up with nothing so here we go.
'Kristen Hersh releases solo album
The former Throwing Muses singer also tours the UK Ex-Throwing Muses frontwoman Kristen Hersh will release a new solo album this month - and you can preview tracks online now
'Learn To Sing Like A Star' comes out in the US on January 23 and January 29 in the UK.
Three songs from the album and a video for the track 'In Shock' can be previewed at 4ad.com/features/kristinhersh.
Hersh will tour the UK in support of the new album in March.
The tour dates are:
Bristol Thekla (March 1) Leicester Y Theatre (2) Nottingham Rescue Rooms (3) Birmingham Glee Club (4) Portsmouth Wedgewood Rooms (6) London KOKO (7) Sheffield Leadmill (9) Manchester Academy 3 (10) Glasgow Oran Mor (11)'
She's in Manchester on my 30th Birthday. Cool.
I'd walk her everyday, into a shady place

Yep, plenty of Kristin devotees here (eh Dean? eh?). Possibly the best songwriter around at the moment. Fairly wideranging comment certainly, but man, the girl's a genius.
The album's great, by the way.

I was a bit meh before going to see her at that theatre place to be honest (it's part of my women vocalist issues) but the girl can wail. I stand corrected.

I'm starting to get a bit annoyed by all the good bands that are coming to Paris this spring. Not getting to gigs anymore and not having time to go to the record store are the two downfalls of having kids. I'm buying my CDs from Amazon now but it doesn't feel the same. Plus, I can't even listen to them (for some reason there's a veto at home against japanese hardcore punk). Anyway this spring I'll miss Kristin Hersch's gig, but also Bryan Ferry, Joanna Newsom and Arcade Fire.

Her seventh solo album in the books, Kristin Hersh now has a body of work stretching back two decades to when her band Throwing Muses tossed the angst-ridden teenager directly into the indie-rock spotlight. Hersh has made great personal strides since branching off on her own, each record of engaging pop music serving as a reflective document of her impulsive lifestyle, each song allowing her voice to grow from young and girlish to broadly mature. She plays most of the instruments on all 14 songs, several of which deal with the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina (Hersh once lived in New Orleans) and a personal misfortune in her own home. Heartbreak practically drips from Hersh's voice when she vows that "getting up is what hurts" in the commanding rocker "Day Glow" or admits that "nervous energy keeps us busy" in the pensive "Ice." As usual, the turbulently talented musician picks herself off the mat with the self-deprecating instrumental "Christian Hearse," the Nirvana-like "Under the Gun," and "Winter," complete with tubular bells, strings, and an Irish-tinged chorus that is as triumphant as the artist herself. --Scott Holter

As far as I can tell it's not so much a tour as a series of promotional events. They'll certainly do a proper tour later in the year. On the TMO forum it has just been mentioned that she should be playing in NYC sometime after Easter.

Hey there! I'm in England & I'm considering doing the same as you. Arcade Fire & Kristin Hersh @ Berlin on 26th & 27th March.
Where would you recommend getting tkts from online? I just looked @ www.tickets.de which have Arcade Fire & sell you a code to surrender on the night for entry. Sounds strange but I guess ok. Any suggestions gratefully appreciated.
Thanks Rach |

I'm also considering doing both. I already have my Arcade Fire ticket for the Thursday in Manchester, and I think I will get my Hersh ticket for the Saturday, my birthday.

Hi Rach!
I purchased my tickets offline. So I took a quick look around and couldn't seem to find tickets for the Arcade Fire show in Berlin anywhere else than at ticket.de, that you already mentioned. Never used this site, but as you said, it seems to be ok.
If you're interested, I could make a phonecall or two and ask if the promoter could suggest another site or what the problem with the online sale is.
Were you able to get a ticket for Kristin Hersh online? |

"Learn to Sing" brightened my mailbox only just today, und upon debut I can only say it may be her most brilliant offering under her own name. Love the strings, the production, the attention to detail. And the songs all Hersh and still yet fresh. Had to break away from the stereo, for a minute, just to say. Anybody, and I mean anybody, within distance of this tour just has to get there. Now, off back to stereo to give the new Shins a new listen. A contrast, but each with their own brand of sadness. Heaven wouldn't worth talking about if it didn't include a little bit of Hell.

The new record's amazing. It's so good to hear David Narcizo providing the beats again. I once heard Kristin say that of all the musicians she's worked with it's with David that she's really clicked. Some say he's the best drummer out there. Anyone who's seen him pounding away through Hook In Her Head might agree. The last time I saw him drum with the Muses he looked as if he was in terrible pain (back pain).Since then I've had this idea that he's badly injured. Can anyone dispel this theory?
