this is a strange one
i never really thought of it as much for such a long time i originally thougth of it as one of their weaker songs i just didnt find it that intersting
but lately i have changed my tone i think the overall tone and lyrics to this song a just otherwordly
i can totally relate
i think this song is often misunderstood
most people think it is about reincarnation
i think it is about a guy who has lost hope and really just wants to die but he doesnt want to kill himself cose he wants to go to heaven so he is like well can someone kill me so i can get off this planet legitamitley hence the line "if all in all is true, then wont you please run over me!"
what do u think?

I never thought it was about reincarnation or death, I think it's about sex. "Levitate me" = get me up or get me aroused "Elevator Lady" = the lady who gets people up "if all in all is all is true, then please fawn over me" If this is all there is to life, then let's fuck
that's my take. That's a morbid interpretation you got there homey
this, that, and shit-fuck. |

Those are some sharp, intriguing observations.

I think this is one of those songs that's basically about nothing -- just a bunch of words. Yeah, real insightful, I know. But I think of it like I think of "Monkey Gone to Heaven." None of it seems to mean a damn thing. That's one of the things I love about the Pixies songs -- they're often just a bunch of words that sound really good. And I could be totally wrong -- there maybe be meaning behind all of these songs -- but I enjoy them either way.
And aren't you havin' fun? |

This is from an old thread, possibly as far back as 2003, where this topic has come up before...so I am doing my best to recall without taking the time to search through old threads.
What I recall is that Levitate Me, we discovered, came from the fact that as a group, they did the "light-as-a-feather-stiff-as-a-board" game a few times and successfully levitated Kim, if I am not mistaken, which scared the shit out of Kelly Deal, who was doing it with them. Something like that. And it was around the time they were recording what became COME ON PILGRIM, because Charles wrote that song in the recording studio via stream of concsiousness basically right before putting it down on tape. He was accepting input from the other members, that's why it is credited to them all. My personal thought is that the 'elevator lady' is yet another reference to ERASERHEAD, as the lady Henry keeps seeing in the elevator is a slut who he winds up getting with later in the movie. Or maybe it is referring to the fact that Kim (again, I may be wrong) was levitating...going up...like an elevator...and she is a lady.

i remember trying the light as a feather stiff as a board game as a kid. i don't think we ever successfully levitated anyone, from what i remember. we used to to the bloody mary game too. that was a fun one. you go into a bathroom by yourself with the light off and say bloody mary 20 times in the mirror until an image of a blood-drenched Virgin Mary appears in the mirror. try it. it's fun
at least that's what your mom said |

I'm suprised that you have already forgotten, Floop, that we did the Bloody Mary thing when I came and visited you on your yacht.
