Anyone here work from home? What do you think about that vs working in an office w/other people?
I am thinking about taking a job working from home, but I think it might be a little lonely.
Anyway, I am curious to hear your thoughts on the topic. |

I dream of this. I would love to say goodbye to the office, the people in the office, the commute to the office, the phones in the office, etc. At home, you're in full control of your environment. In the office, well, there are all those uncontrollable annoyances. But maybe that's just me. I'm pretty antisocial, and prefer to not deal with people. Anyway, if you get lonely, isn't that what coffee shops are for?

My concern would be that you're never done. There's always more to do, your work is always sitting there waiting. All the disadvantages of having your own business with almost none of the advantages.
Advantages might be that you could take off midafternoon no problem or, heck, take a laptop along and work from the beaches of Mexico for a few weeks (depending). Also this is much more environmentally friendly, and I don't know how bad Minny is, but no time in gridlock/commuting. But disadvantages are easy distractions, perhaps difficulty getting 'into' work, and probably 'out of' work, too.
Plus, out of sight, out of mind. If you're in a vertical organization, are you likely to get noticed for doing extras or being a smart/good worker? Hard to say.

I work from home, but only when I'm doing my homework.

Think that you have to have a lot of discipline (to avoid the stuff that CoF mentioned). ie Treat it like you would any other job, but without the pain in the ass travel. If your 9-5 starts to become 8-8 (but with dog walks and infinite coffee breaks) then that's a slippery slope. Unless you're so high up that you should be doing that anyway (but without dogs and breaks)
Scratching the surface without a purpose won't accomplish anything new

Do you work on floop's mom?
I'd walk her everyday, into a shady place
