It occurs to me that the fancy coffee phenomenon has left my city, replaced by the Tim Horton's phenomenon. The purpose of this thread, where is your area's best espresso.
Frank's bus has to travel between shows! Include your city's name and the date of Frank's expected presence.

Heh, good topic.
Hmm, well, I'm not a coffee drinker of any sort, but there is a Starbucks two blocks north of the venue where FB plays at in Saskatoon (Nov. 7/06). Just stroll along 2nd Avenue and it's on the east side across the street from a McDonalds. My uncle's restaurant is just two buildings over from there. Also, there's a really good deli-cafe called Liberty's where you can get some great sandwiches if you're into cold cuts. I think they also had some monstrous burgers or something too.

Starbucks sucks!
Mike just finished building one in a fancy type area.
He was finishing up some stuff on the day of the grand opening and they wouldn't even give him a coffee. Not a free coffee for the guy who built the freaking store!

A nice Jersey style rant on the coffee chain that no one can escape. A blitzkrieg of F bombs so make sure the kids ain't around when you watch this.
As for my own coffee, I find it's best to invest in your own equipment and make it yourself like a true snob.

My only gripes with Starbucks - remembering that I am a non-customer since I don't do coffee - are that it is expensive brand-labelled foodstuffs and that the sizing is idiotic. I don't really see the point as a consumer of showing off that I have a Starbucks, but apparently this is 'chic' in cities with residents smarter than me. As a businessperson, though, good for them that they've somehow managed to do this.

My big Starbucks problem is that their business strategy is to find places with successful independent coffee shops, move in and run them out of business. That and thier expensive, bitter coffee.

I did a little research today, In Winnipeg (11/05/06) Pantages' Playhouse is at Main and Market. Across Main Street is the Royal Bank Building, if you go North one block you pass the entrance to Old Market Square, then at the corner of Main and Bannatyne is the Crocus Building. At the back of Crocus is The Winnipeg Folk Festival Music Store which is a great place.
This Music Store is at the confluence of Bannatyne, Albert and Arthur, across Bannatyne is the Fyxx Espresso Bar. I don't drink espresso and I've never been there, can anyone say if this convenient cafe is any good? (I'm fond of Timmy's myself.)
If you take Arthur South to McDermot and go half a short block West you will find Into The Music, which is a wonderful used record store! |

Yeah, this is a good topic. Every band needs a layout of the local flavor for their tours. Perry has a site he's been working on in the background to provide something just like that, free, for bands and for the show-goers. Hopefully we'll be able to get it together sometime soon. Anyways...
Frank'll be in Louisville, KY, at Headliner's on Sat. October 28,
located at 1386 Lexington Road... so I would suggest that he go to
Sunergos, at 2122 South Preston Street.
it's 3 miles (7 minutes) away, but they roast their own coffee, and it's incredibly, amazingly, good.
Or there's the Old Louisville Coffee House, in Old Louisville, of all places. I don't know about the coffee here cause I haven't tried it, but it sure is popular. 1489 South Fourth Street, Corner of 4th and Hill.
I can't just talk about coffee. Man can try to live on espresso alone, but his nerves will out.
For dinner, he might consider going to Vietnam Kitchen at 5339 Mitscher Ave., a mere 8.3 miles from Headliners. It won't dissapoint. Unless he hates Vietnamese food.
Or there's Ramsi's Cafe On the World - great surroundings and delicious food. 1293 Bardstown Rd
THEN to top it off before he leaves town, I would also highly recommend that Frank find a *neat* glass of Pappy Van Winkle 15/20/or 23 Year Bourbon (all equally delicious, in different ways) while he's in town. (I sure hope he's going to read this and take my advice! ha) |
