So let me get this straight: You can't listen to any songs on the MOG that aren't already available. (Although I love this radio show) |

You can only listen to songs that happen to be in some database from which MOG draws for a small collection of streaming snippets. It's from Amazon or something.

On the Net: Artist faves on Mog.com
Staff and agencies 24 October, 2006
By JAKE COYLE, AP Entertainment Writer 12 minutes ago
Mog.com is one online community that isn‘t shy about embracing the list in its enthusiasm for music. Maybe lists can seem trite, but who among us hasn‘t numbered their favorite bands, concerts or CDs?
It will suggest music based on your tastes — also not a new scheme, a trail blazed most notably by Pandora.com.
The Mog profile for Frank Black of the Pixies lists artists he thinks "are tops" (the Kinks, Them, Kinky Friedman ), songs "that made me cry a tear" (Elliot Smith‘s "Needle in the Hay") and his first album: "Meet the Beatles."
Aside from frequent blogging (or "mogging") Black also lists music his children currently approve (the Foreman, Jonathan Richman ) and notes that his first concert was seeing Boston with Sammy Hagar when he was in sixth grade.
Mog is currently in Beta, so hopefully it will continue to add more artists and their respective lists. Right now, the selection is paltry. Others with Mog pages include the Hold Steady, Mike Watt , Menomena, Deerhoof and David Lowery of Camper Van Beethoven.
But with less, Mog.com still manages to evoke a stronger passion for music than MySpace — at least for those of us who are suckers for a good list. |

From http://www.dalsabzi.com/Message/santgyan1.htm:
Many great Spiritual personalities have shone brightly, for a few years and have accomplished more than a lot of us have in so many.
Sant Gnaneshwar was one of them. He translated the Bhagavad Geeta in Marathi, and explained it in a way that the lay people could understand. The above he accomplished while he was in his teens. He hailed from Alandi, a village not far from Pune. His father renounced the world but returned to his wife when a great saint urged him to, The saint predicted that he should return to family life as he was destined to give birth to great souls. One of those great souls was young Gnaneshwar. The village however did not approve of his father returning to family life, after having renounced the world, hence they gave him the death sentence, and excommunicated Gnaneshwar and his family, from the rest of the village. There are many a miraculous story connected with the survival of the siblings. The biggest miracle was the interpretation of the Gita, which is called the 'Gnaneshwari' and is read today by millions. Young Gnaneshwar took mahasamadhi, while he was still a young lad. Miraculous stories are connected with the above episode and site.

Dude is all about reclaiming the Pixies. It's like a rebirth that has taken almost ten years (since he started playing Pixies songs live again, around '98 I believe, someone correct me if I'm wrong). Good for him.
maybe I'll kick it

"oh. and if Kim (she’s from THE PIXIES , too) quits the reformed PIXIES , then this gal right here is gonna be the bass player."
I hope he was kidding when he said that, too. Actually, now that I think about it, he probably was kidding. I doubt if the Pixies would do anything without Kim. |

I guess they added "of The PIXIES" to his title or something and he ranted then removed it.
No, I don't think that he was serious about Kim. Those girls, incidentally, are from Pixies Three.

Broken Face, what's your handle there? I'll stop by.
The last few days (not anymore), I was sharing the "Featured Posts" with Mr Frank Black himself (left column, front page). That made my week. |

Holy shit! Is this true or do you think he's just screwing with the interviewer? Seems like an odd thing to joke about.
Oh, and Frank's MOG is no more, it seems.

Perhaps they kept fucking around with his shit, and he said "hey, it ain't worth it to me at this point"? This hurts MOG immensely; Frank was easily their biggest name. I guess now it's all up to Michelle Shocked to take the reins while they attempt to rake in the cult/indie/too-cool-for-school demographic.
Another theory: Frank was intimidated by Broken Face joining up?

Very weird about the Mog disappearance...
As for the new album, I can't say for sure that an FB album coming out this holiday season is going to happen, but some fairly accurate sources have been hinting at rumours of this.

1. To me, that quote reads like Sarcasm City. But I guess we don't know for sure.
2. I'd be surprised if something new was suddenly announced to be coming out before the end of the year. It's November. Most record labels usually announce 3-4 months in advance. If this is true, maybe it's some kind of prize in a contest or something. |

I agree, but what you may not know is that FB and Violet are working on their own sort-of mini label.

This is just total speculation on my part, having read this forum every day for the past eight months and listening to every FB interview and show I can get my hands on ... but the dude has been so busy with touring -- and has been playing only a few new songs -- for me to believe there will be anything really significant available anytime soon. I've been reading rumors of a best-of album, and that seems plausible, but I bet that's all we might see in the next few months, if anything.

A mini-label? Now that's the most interesting FB news I've heard in a while, if it's true.
And it totally coincides with his comments on that radio broadcoast a few days ago, that he'd release more and more if he could.
This, combined with the change of direction the brand new live material promises, has me psyched. |
