Highway to Lowdown

Funny Denis, i used to HATE Holland Town, but over the last few weeks, its been in my head a lot, and i've grown to admire it more than before. Perhaps because i started focusing on the ukelele part - give it a listen...

I don't know, I often have it stuck in my head too, but there are things in it that really make me cringe. Mainly, the lame ending (worse than in Down To You), the line "Alcohol and speed were friends" and the reference to "below the sea level" (so cliché), and all the annoying C7 that sound like everyone is out of tune.
Anyway. Highway is much better imo.

I like the song EXCEPT that part. In fact, that might be my least favorite moment on an FB CD, ever.

It's just not its just not your moments moment. Meaning it gets my vote to go.

Vilainde: How is "below the sea level" so cliche? It certainly doesn't come up all that often in songs. Or are you displeased by the Holland-sea level reference as you find that it is over cited? Oh, and I think the C7 works for me (as the 7th hints at the Bb chord while simultaneously moving us forward eventually to the F chord resulting in a pleasing sort of tension) and both Down to You and Holland Town have really cool endings =).
Isn't it great how FB fans can have polar opposite opinions on his work?

Heh... And I love It's Just Not Your Moment!
The "sea level" thing to me sounds too much like Frank thought "let's see, what's special about Holland? I know, it's below the sea level! And they do drugs too! Oh, and they have bikes! Let's cram all this in my song!" Good thing we escaped the lines about "You visited a windmill" and "You saw a tulip field".

My vote is for Don't Cry That Way

Pardon my ignorance, but which ones are the Honeycomb leftovers? I've figured out that they include Kiss My Ring, Where the Wind is Going and I guess Highway to Lowdown...are there others on FMRM? Are there others that didn't make FMRM? Thanks...

Those 3 plus Fare Thee Well. The fifth one was All Around The World but they didn't keep it for FMRM either. It was terribly boring, to be honest.

Are you voting for IJNYM or being punny here? :)

I agree that I don't like the "Hello - I mean, you" part either. But the choruses of this are great, very Beatlesy - esp. that bassline.

Come on, it's Frank having fun, what's wrong with it? Reminds me of him singing the Perry Mason theme, or imitating Will Mulholland.

[edit: I was talking about Sad Old World]

It [the talking part in Sad Old World] seems cliched and irrelevant. Him talking like Mulholland seemed awesome. Still, I'll put up with it for the choruses.

Me too! No, I LOVE it!! And the talking part is one of the best parts, besides the opening line! Jesus Christ, you people! Get rid of "Fare Thee Well, for fuck's sake! I mean, don't get me wrong, I like it and it works very well as an album closer, but as an individual song, it's certainly not one of the best out of all the remaining songs, which are, if I may say, all damn-near, if not, masterpieces.

And need I mention the gorgeous pedal steel, played by none other than the Duke of Fender himself (am I allowed to call him that or is that just a Nashville insiders term?)!

Isn't it unusually even at the moment? And I like all the songs that are left a whole lot, so almost anything that goes is gonna annoy me somewhat. (Also, I thought the Real El Rey would get at least one vote this round. It doesn't seem like the kind of track everyone will like. Tactics?)
