As much as I like all the Honeycomb leftovers individually, I don't think they should have been on this album. If I wanted to listen to a sore thumb, I'd... well, I don't know what I'd do but you get the point.

I wish they would have re-recorded them or overdubbed new tracks somewhere along the way. The drums sound too weak and the transition from Down to You to Highway to Lowdown makes me want to turn up my Yamaha receiver 6 decibels. It's like when you make a mix tape and one song is too loud and the next song sounds low in comparison so you have to crank it.

::Gasp:: Even though it isn't awesome, it's still a Tom Waits cover and kind of interesting in a weird, quirky way. "Fare Thee Well" is just this boring traditional song that repeats over and over and doesn't do anything interesting musically. As my tab of it says: "Same chord progression used the whole song." Maybe I'm being harsh, but this song should either not have been on this album, or they should have ended with something more memorable. I think the last song on an album is its chance to shine and go out with a bang. Fare Thee Well doesn't do either. It's like I'd rather listen to the first song again instead of end with Fare Thee Well.

I never liked Black Rider until I heard the Bremen bootleg (July 4, 2003), where he nearly screams the last part of the song. When I heard that, I listened to it as loudly as I stand, and ten times in a row. I also bought the Tom Waits version on iTunes this morning (because I didn't know until today that it was his song), and his is really good, too. But I don't think FB&tC did too great a job on it on the album versions. Too tame, really.

Shiny!

Wow, exact same intro for The Real El Rey and When the Paint, except for the drum sound being a little more crisp in the former. Good call, D-man.

Where the Wind and Kiss My Ring both start with drum fills but they are at least different fills. I don't know how big a fan I am of leading off with a drum fill...

The Real El Ray. Probably the most boring Frank Black song ever in my opinion.
Well, maybe not, but still it's pretty dull.
