Who is going to the Atlanta show? The show is general admission. Would anyone be interested in getting together before? |

I'll be there. You're gonna have to compete with me for the spot directly in front of Frank! How is the Roxy? I've never seen a show there before.

Never been there either. I'd be willing to come-up with a list of places close by for FBN members to meet if there is any interest. I was thinking that we could meet up around 4 and get to the door by 6. |

I'm up for meeting somewhere before the show, but apparently there is no one else. I'm not extremely familiar with the area. Maybe you could post a list of places, like you said.

Show's tonight - just got my pass yesterday - to tell you the truth, I didn't know he was playing tonight until yesterday. I saw Frank Black at the Roxy sometime back in the the 90's. Don't ask for details, it's all a hazy blur. See ya there. |

The Atlanta show rocked -- 22 songs!!! Here is the set list, as written (I caught it in one of my photos).
Ghosts Bullet Curve Dog Gyaneshwar Headache Horrible Burn Blue Pittsburgh World Johnny Soul Terrible Nadine Raider Re-Make Joy 666 Swimmer (?) Suffering 10%
I was up front and got some pretty damn good pics I think. I will post them on my Flickr when I have a chance to go through all of them and pick out the best. Probably in the next couple days. While you wait, here is a teaser pic:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/bengarland/271996460/
I guess the show started promptly at 8pm, because I got there at 9 and Reid Paley had already played. Frank did his thing and was done by about 10:45pm or so, and there was no encore. Kinda strange, I've never been to a show that got started early and ended before 11pm. It was nice to not have to stay out until after midnight for once =)

"The End of the Summer" is what I assume the second set of question marks is, but no clue on the "Cyan" front...
EDIT: Are you sure it's not "Gyan", as in "Gyaneshwar"?

It's amazing. Bit surprised that 'End of Summer' would be on the setlist though. |

ya great pic. i like how they are are slowing adding new songs to the setlist. seems like a pretty rocking set. really like that they're playing living on soul and remake/remodel.

Fantastic show! I tried to record, but it is truly unlistenable, unfortunately. There was a guy next to me recording, but when I asked if he planned on putting it on the internet, he said he didn't even have a computer. The written setlist was followed to a t, except Pittsburg and All Around the World came before I'll be Blue. Dog stands for Dog Gone, not Dog Sleep. As you can see, the setlist is entirely alphabetical, except for that switch-around. They didn't play End of Summer, so I'm not sure what Apesy and Ziggy are talking about. I was standing directly in front of Frank and got a few pictures. They're not as good as hangwire's, but I'll post them anyway when I get a chance.
The show really rocked. I really loved the setlist. He stuck to pretty much post-Cult of Ray material, which suits his band pretty well, especially since there's no synth (EDF plays bass). The new songs ("Gyaneshwar" and "Dead Man's Curve") sound fantastic. The only thing I was upset about was no "The Real El Rey" or "Sad Old World." I thought it was strange that there was no encore, butjust as well, as the set was almost an hour and a half anyway. Frank said his Takamine with the hole in it finally fell apart, so he had to get a new one, which is unfortunate.
Reid Paley sounded great (first time I've heard him). But I was right against the stage and his Fender amp was directly in front of my left ear with the volume and treble WAY up, and I still can't hear properly out of my left ear (my right ear is fine). I found it interesting that he played Pittsburg in his set as well as Frank. I thought it was pretty funny when Frank was talking about cowriting Pittsburg, and he said he really didn't think he wrote much of it at all, and that maybe he just kept the iced tea going while they were writing it.
The drummer, Billy Block, was an animal, and his hair is incredible! He was smiling the entire time he was playing. He seemed like a nice guy, chatting with a bunch of fans after the show, though I never got to meet him. I thought Duane Jarvis did very well on the lead guitar. The arrangements were more or less the same as the album versions (of course, they had to make up for the lack of keyboards by changing guitar parts around a bit), except "I'll be Blue which had a great electric intro that I could have sworn at first was "Man of Steel," until I looked over at the setlist.
I can't think of anything more to add. I'll post my pictures wither later today or on Thursday.

Frank did actually mention mid-show, "How do you like this alphabetical setlist?"

This was my first frank show, and his live mix and sound are better than I expected. I kind of wish he played a little more pre-catholics material, but all in all it was a great show. I forget how powerfull franks' songs are untill i see him live. By the way how many people were there? Does anyone know?

Yeah, definitely. (Hence the smiley.) But it nearly landed alphabetically in the setlist last night, which woulda made me wonder if he was being super-sly.

This isn't necessarily Frank-related, but I have to suggest that you or anyone else buy some ETY high fidelity earplugs. I got some for the show... they are about $10. Unlike most normal earplugs, the show still sounded clear... just not insanely loud! It was awesome and my ears didn't hurt afterwards.
Trust me, you want to preserve your hearing while you still have it. I am only 28 and already have more or less permanent tinnitus (I've gotten used to it) and my hearing isn't what it used to be. Protect your ears while you still have good hearing!!!

Yeah, I've been meaning to get some earplugs. Thanks for the suggestion; I may go ahead and buy those.

It was posted in the MOG thread and the Send Me Some Frank v2 thread, but I think you're right. I'll start a new one for those who might have missed it. It's an awfully good interview and performance.

Hey hang wire, those are great pics what did you take them with? I saw a bunch of guys on the front using those new-fangled computer phone camera thingies. Is that what you used, if so what kind i'd like to look into those. That way i'll stop using words like new- fangled.
