I actually haven't heard a lot of those. However, you're missing the tribute albums it seems...

I like the version of Debaser on that Japanese tribute cd from many years ago the best--and John Flansburgh's cover of Oddballs too. |

Actually, I put Debaser by Tin Machine in the compilation as well (just forgot to list it).
I think I have all the tribute albums. The compilation includes several tracks off Pixies Fuckin' Die (by far my favorite tribute album), one off Where Is My Mind, 2 off La La Love You, but none from the Japanese tribute or from the Belgian Death To The Pixies We're Better.
I hesitated about the Teenage Fanclub cover, but though I like the band I am not that found of the cover.
Thanks for the link to the Rogue Wave cover. I did not have this one.
I am trying to compile as many Pixies covers as possible. I have around 200 by now, that can be downloaded through Soulseek (make a search on Pixies Covers). |

I knew that "Hey" existed but did not have the tracks. I just downloaded them from Soulseek, after having made my selection for the compilation. |

Here are the lyrics for Titanic:
And this I know Leonardo DiCaprio What a gas it was to see him Upon the silver screen In another starring role With her lips she said, Rose ah..
Hey Jack Hey Jack I'm gonna jump off the back Hey Jack Hey Jack I'm gonna jump off the back Hey Jack Hey Jack I'm gonna jump off the back Of the titanic Titanic, Titanic A Big Big Boat Titanic, Titanic, Titanic A Big Big Boat
What a lovely lady rose What a big black sea What a hunk of boat We'll walk everyday around this big ass boat We should dock it, but where would we
Hey Jack Hey Jack I'm gonna jump off the back Hey Jack Hey Jack I'm gonna jump off the back Hey Jack Hey Jack I'm gonna jump off the back Of the Titanic Titanic, Titanic A Big Big Boat Titanic, Titanic, Titanic A Big Big Boat
An iceberg left, you floating here Just where you were, before it appeared And its in place, an sea of space You found you're finally resting place
Titanic, Titanic, Titanic A Big Big Boat Titanic, Titanic, Titanic A Big Big Boat *repeat 8x* |

That Debaser is kinda mellow....it's good to hear people doing something different with covers. Brickisred, Titanic is hilarious! That Break My Body (one of my Pixies faves, as I've said before) cover reminds me of Jeff Buckley. That Covers Project Pixes page is interesting stuff, Kitty! I'm sure I've heard that computer version of WIMM? before....
I still haven't heard the tribute albums, must check 'em out!

Here's a review of Hanne Hukkelberg's Rykestrasse, which includes the cover of Break My Body:
http://arts.guardian.co.uk/filmandmusic/story/0,,2045775,00.html
True, the unpredictable treatments cover a broad range of styles, from the sparse fragments of the title track to the banjo- Bach of Ticking Bomb; from the jazzy, catchy A Cheater's Armoury to the lush sweep of the Pixies' Break My Body, the album's sole cover. |

Ha ha, yeah, but no one else has ever done 'Palace Of the Brine'.
Because they can't figure out the tab. Hint - you need to detune a string and remove another to play it. Also, you have to be drunk and on painkillers from surgery.

Before the Pixies show in Sydney 2 weeks ago (which was phenomenal) they were playing some of those "Matthews Celebrity Pixies Covers" over the sound system, it was gold!! Crowd was "wtf" for a while but then it evolved into a singalong...great way to fire up for the main show. From memory they played the Wave of Mutilation (Beach Boys), Hey (Prince), and River euphrates (Tina Turner) |

For those who wanna do covers...
Here's a 19:43 video of the complete "Come on Pilgrim" album. It's got the words. (Karaoke anyone?) It's got the music. and it ain't very fancy, but nice to discover what he's saying for the first time. I think it's cool.

It does exist, I listened to it a long time ago and don't have it anymore. I wasn't thrilled by this cover... only one guitar, it isn't enough at all and Bowie don't scream like Black Francis.
Anyway, you should find it on Soulseek. |

mondo-nyc: Your Cover's Blown.
Gigantic- This well-known track by the infamous Pixies was one of the most memorable tracks off their 1988 Surfer Rosa LP. A slower, more moody take on this track appeared in 1993 by the dream-pop band Orange, on THURTENE (A tribute to 4AD) compilation album .
Cover: Orange - Gigantic

My favorite Pixies cover is the Penpals doing "Here Comes Your Man" from the Japanese tribute. Fun, fist pumping, pop punk version.
