I'll see them this sunday.
Too bad they changed the venue for a bigger one.

They covered The Modern Lovers when I saw them, but apparently they also covered Pink Floyd in London.

Viva Voce opened and they covered Modern lovers too.
A great show, even if they let the lights on for the crowd because they were four cameras shooting the concert. This was quite annoying.

I saw them in Manchester, the other week, and was a bit bored, they didn't seem to really go for it. My girlfriend, who really loves the shins, agreed, saying it was "a bit like watching them on tele".

I'm glad to hear this! Me and my mate were gutted we didn't get tickets in time... Still would have liked to have seen them. I'm not sure how much I like them, some of it doesn't really grab me, but there's at least 3 songs I really love a lot.

You don't think they were animated? Obviously, I don't care for people to be doing synchronised stage jumps, but the singer just looked bored, and all that "Hey Manchesterrr" stuff got a bit tiresome, and seemed rather desperate. The crowd seemed to respond in kind, there was no real jumping up and down or anything like that. It was all a bit sedate.

Bands like The Shins don't get people jumping up and down (well, not many). At least, not in Manchester anyway.

They seemed to be really enjoying themselves to me, and none of the people I went with thought they looked bored at all. That's the third time I have seen them, and the best.

Were you at the back?

No, we were near the front, in the middle. The Shins have a lot of exciting songs and I'd have expected the crowd to have got into it a bit, and the band (particularly the singer) to have not held back so much. Maybe it is a Manchester thing, too cool for school? I always have more fun when I go gigs in Liverpool

Yeah but you have to watch your wallet there.

I dunno, I guess it's just two different people's opinions of the same gig. It just shows that even at a relatively small venue, it can still be viewed quite differently.

I've seen them 5 or 6 times. They are fun live. I saw them on two tours with Modest Mouse in the late 90's. Those were great shows. It was before Oh, Inverted World and it was still killer. I was suprised how well the Wincing the Night Away songs sounded live. Kudos to them.

I saw them open for White Stripes and they were lacklustre. White Stripes were not.

That sounds a bit backwards if you ask me.

And you?
