Are amazing! Saw them in New York yesterday, the band has alot of energy live, much different than on cd and the new songs sound really cool too. Also J Mascis opened up for them and he was really cool, ripping his acoustic guitar like an electric one solo-amazing!

You might want to check out Marty's (from Shins) brother's band, the GiRANiMALS (http://www.myspace.com/thegiranimals). It's pretty much straight ahead pop. His wife sings and guitars.

Would've been cool to see J. I seen the Shins a few years back in SLC. It was rope.

I was gutted when they cancelled Reading a couple of weeks ago. They were one of the bands I was most looking forward to seeing, if not THE band I was most looking forward to seeing.

They were excellent when I saw them in 2004.

Yeah the reason they pulled out of Reading was to concentrate on their new album.

How could I fall so madly in love with Chutes Too Narrow and then a few months later never want to listen to it again? Seriously, what happened? I loved this album.

Yeah, the same thing happened to me. I loved it for about two months, and then it fell off the face of the earth.

Wow. They still together? You all guys saw Marty on the next top model show? It was frickin weird, cause he looks so much like his bro Maury, I thought "what the hell is he doing on a TV show with Tyra Banks?" Maury's the one who told me to get coated ambassadors for my "First Act" drum set. Go, go gadget Shins (and family).

The Shins reveal all about new album release

The cult rockers finally get round to putting third LP out
The Shins have confirmed the release date of their long-awaited new album 'Wincing The Night Away'.

The cult American indie band, who pulled out of their slot at this year's Carling Weekend; Reading and Leeds festivals to finish the record, will release it on January 22 next year (23rd in the States).

The Shins been working on the follow-up to 2003's 'Chutes Too Narrow' with producer Phil Ek since September in Seattle, finishing the LP in frontman James Mercer's home studio.

Speaking about the release date on their official website, the band wrote: "Trust us if we had our way it would be out next week, but 'The Man' has seen fit to do otherwise.

"The good folks at Sub Pop have scheduled this like a finely tuned machine, and we have all the confidence in the world that January is the magic month for a reason. We are excited."

New songs which have already been premiered live include 'Circus Walk', 'Phantom' and 'Australia'.

"cult rockers"?
"cult American indie band"?

What? What does this even mean? These guys had a song in a McDonald's commercial and were mentioned, on screen, by Natalie Portman. Not exactly a 'cult' following.

They are over here.

I can't believe McDonalds wanted one of their songs. Which one? It wasn't used over here.

'over here'.... sod off.

I think it was the same one that changed little Natalie's life in "Garden State", but I could be wrong. I never saw the commercial, I just read about it. I lost a little respect.

I never saw that commercial, but i did see a commercial (maybe for McDonalds - that or M&Ms) that had the Iron and Wine cover of the Postal Service's "Such Great Heights" in it and i wanted to vomit.

That Iron & Wine "Such Great Heights" is definitely on an M & M's commercial. It's all "psychedellic" patterns and then I think some dude on a bench eats an M & M at the end.

The Shins announce album tracklisting
The band benefit from some
The Shins have announced the tracklisting of their new album 'Wincing The Night Away'.

The album will be released on January 22, preceded by the single 'Phantom Limb' which will be available on iTunes on November 13 and physically released on November 20.

It will be the band's third album, the follow up to 2004's 'Chutes Too Narrow'.

The group worked with producer Phil Ek in Seattle and finished it in frontman James Mercer's home studio.

Mercer told Billboard: "I'm constantly reminded how much better the project gets as the new discoveries are made. That only happens through taking your time and being able to approach it with some new perspective."

The 11 tracks that will appear on the album are:

'Sleeping Lessons'
'Australia'
'Pam Berry'
'Phantom Limb'
'Sea Legs'
'Red Rabbits'
'Turn On Me'
'Black Wave'
'Split Needles'
'Girl Sailor'
'A Comet Appears'

Holy cow I just found an acoustic performace by James Mercer from 2004. Downloaded it from a torrent. He plays 13 songs, one a cover of the "The Holiday Song," and the sound quality is great.

If you are itching for some new Shins and haven't heard this yet, I recommend it.

Absolutely nothing creepy about it though.

Now another want is that new Shins album. Pleeeeeeeeease?

I saw them again last night, and once again they were fantastic. His voice is just amazing live, possibly my favourite.

Viva Voce were very good in support. I have wanted to see them for a while now, so that was a big bonus.
