actually i don't think it's true. But did anyone every came across the idea, that the album title for the last pixies album before the reunion was something like a hint? you know, "trompe le monde" means as much as "fool the world"... so did they split up intentionally to reunite some time in the future? i always thought the pixies were some kind of "premature birth" and they had actually a very hard time in the late 80's early 90's. i mean the world was really ready for this band and so mostly they were ignored by the mass. they were just know in the underground. thank god for the internet, otherwise all my favourite bands would probably not excist anymore, because no one would know them. althought they are still more "underground" bands. anyway nowadays you see how popular the pixies are! if you compare it with their 1st life.
so this theory?: (?fooled the world?) -> disbanded -> waiting for the right time to re-unite? |

So true. It's difficult to imagine what the music world, among others, would be like today had the last ten years been limited to the deadtree press and word of mouth. The industry behemoths whine about download sales competition but even more it's online information that's loosened their grip.

actually, i meant the world WASN'T really ready for the pixies... but i am sure you all already know that.
@Erebus: you're right. i mean there are many bands that deserve to be known but they hardly every get a brief note in music magazines. and if you're not fugazi then i wouldnt trust on word-of-mouth advertising. ;) |

The part about that song that really made me have that theory was the "and now it's time to go away on a holiday" line at the end of the song. I thought that it was so obvious. They're just going to take a vacation! I tried to assure all my friends that they would get back together, if only they'd listen to Trompe Le Monde. I thought I was just fooling myself, but I guess I wasn't. And I'm sure that wasn't the band's plan all along, but it's fun to imagine.

oh, yes you're right. i've noticed that line too.. but i was not thinking of it when i wrote this topic... pretty crazy!
anyway, i didnt really believe in a reunion, because frank often talked like he wouldn't care for kim... when the breeder released title tk, he said theres no reason why he should listen to it. cause he's not interessted in these "old days", when they used to play together. i'm really happy that they've managed to play together. |
