Anybody else into this guy? I only knew him through the Modern Lovers (and of course The Man Who Was Too Loud) but I've been getting all his solo stuff, and I must say the vast majority is great. He is probably the most talented lyricist I've ever come across and while it's easy to write off his output as standard surfy gooey love songs, I think they're full of great hooks. I mean - New England, I Was Dancing In The Lesbian Bar, The Neighbors...all great songs. Though his records are frighteningly difficult to obtain. |

I wonder if this will bring Bumblebeeboy2 back? He was certainly a big fan. There are others here too though.
I'd walk her everyday, into a shady place

Yeah, I'm a pretty big fan as well. Saw him play in Des Moines a couple of years ago. Was a great show. Jesse Denatale opened for him and was incredible as well.

Saw him in NYC a few years ago two days after having Wisdom teeth pulled. It was quite enjoyable.

Jonathan Richman song I put on mix CDs the most: "Gail Loves Me" off of Modern Lovers 88. It's just charming as can be. |

Modern Lovers are great. And I've always thought Jerry Harrison was so lucky to be in two great bands, tML & Talking Heads. That's rare. |

Oh my god, thanks! I'm in Oxford, so I'll probably go to the Camb and London ones. This is brilliant, I wouldn't have thought to check myself... Does he have a new album coming out or something then? |

Me and some folks were supposed to go see him last year. He was playing at a local shit hole which would have been cool but we ended up getting drunk at one of the aforementioned "folks" house and ended up playing cricket all night in his backyard. I was a little pissed about missing it but these things happen.

Before the Pixies came along, these guys and Gang Green were the only music-scene thing that made it cool to be attending college near the Boston area.
Does anybody else hear Frank in Jonathan Richman's style, especially his voice? Anybody know what I mean?

The one Jonathan Richman show I've been to is the single greatest concert I've ever been to, and quite possibly the greatest experience of my entire life. I can't even begin to describe the feeling. It was just overwhelmingly spiritual.
