Who likes Band Of Horses? I was put off for ages by the internet-nerd kind of buzz surrounding them, but I watched them playing The Funeral on the David Letterman show today and can't stop listening, especially that track.
They remind me a little of a more understated Arcade Fire, at least in the fact that they've actually got some passion and heart behind the delivery...

I love that cd. I looked forward to their show here in Texas until it turned out to be on a very inconvenient night about an hour from my house and I had to miss it.
just wish they'd change their name. It's so over-earnest, but the music isn't that way.
The cd reminds me a little of the Shins. Not a bad song in the lot, and mostly all great in fact.

They are very good, I like them a lot. Funeral is just beautiful.
I do disagree with your Arcade Fire comment though Simon.

How so? They strike me as one of the few 'hip' new bands that aren't actually afraid to put some emotion in the vocals, a la Arcade Fire. Plus, he's got a bit of the overwraught wailing going on.

Sorry I misread your post. I thought you were saying that Arcade Fire didn't have emotion in their vocals.
That makes more sense now.

I found The Funeral to be pretty dull truth be told. I don't see it. |

You listened to it on laptop speakers though, there's a big difference.

Sometimes having you know everything I do is pretty annoying. I'll plug the better speakers in and try again....
Don't hold your breath though. |

Having had the CD thrust upon me by one who doesn't like to think his taste in music is anything but the most excellent and having listened to it three times through I have this to say:
I really don't get it. |

He's kind of dopey but makes a half decent cup of tea so I keep him around.
Seriously though, what's the fuss with this band? It's not emotional it's flat and whiny, the music isn't souring or beautiful it's trad and boring. I got fed up half way through. I only stuck with it because it was suggested by one whose judgment I usually trust. I can't ever see myself wanting to listen to this again truth be told. It was really nothing special. |

I also found the album quite boring, except "Wicked Gil", "The Funeral" and another one I don't remember the title.
30% of the record, so perhaps they're not that bad.

I think it's not a great great album, but there are some excellent moments. The First Song and Great Salt Lake are pretty decent.

I saw them last night and they were fantastic. Their new songs sounded excellent.
Looking forward to seeing them again in Barca in a weeks time.

This is the part where a certain moderator comes in and says they smell worse than a rat's ass.
I'd rather be anywhere or doing anything |
